First, unless Will Smith is fluent in German, that was a translation, and translation depends a lot on the interpreter's ability to express nuance and such. Second, all he's saying is thateven prior to 9/11, black people in America didn't live with the same sense of security as whites. This is a pretty stupid statement to make, as I'm fairly certain that Will Smith's billions make it unlikely that he's ever been in a situation similar to low-income people (regardless of color). It's not the same at all, however, as saying that no black people died in the towers. Still waiting for that cite...
