Well, the interview quote cited by el gordo is a pretty far cry from the claims of prisoner105. First, unless Will Smith is fluent in German, that was a translation, and translation depends a lot on the interpreter's ability to express nuance and such. Second, all he's saying is thateven prior to 9/11, black people in America didn't live with the same sense of security as whites. This is a pretty stupid statement to make, as I'm fairly certain that Will Smith's billions make it unlikely that he's ever been in a situation similar to low-income people (regardless of color). It's not the same at all, however, as saying that no black people died in the towers. Still waiting for that cite...

Will Smith made that statement in an interview with a German newspaper in August 2004. He also said that the United Nations are the future and we can only overcome hunger, war etc. if we unite all countries. Also: George W. Bush lied. I have never heard the original English, but here is the link to the original interview (last question refers to 9/11).

LINK: http://www.faz.net/s/Rub8A25A66CA9514B9892E0074EDE4E5AFA/Doc~ECE5A9F438325465FB855CC633E8091BA~ATpl~Ecommon~Scontent.html

Here is a pretty accurate translation of how Smith answered the question if 9/11 changed anything for him (translation back from German):

http://medienkritik.typepad.com/blog/2004/08/will_smith_in_f.html

"No. Absolutely not. When you grow up black in America you have a completely different view of the world than white Americans. We blacks live with a constant feeling of unease. And whether you are wounded in an attack by a racist cop or in a terrorist attack, I’m sorry, it makes no difference.”

They only translate the first part. He goes on to say roughly this: "In the 1960s blacks were constantly the target of terrorist assaults. It was civic terrorism but terrorism is terrorism. We are used to being attacked. When it comes to living on constant alert, living in a defensive attitude - nothing has changed in that regard."

You know, I used to consider that perhaps he has a point. Now I´m beginning to think that this attitude is like a comfortable blanket. And coming from a guy who was a millionaire at 18, praises Michael Moore and the UN and says things to the foreign press he wouldn´t say at home - I don´t buy it.

He also believes the government created Aids, Rev. Wright style. The media has covered for him for years.

I think he's a tremendous talent, a great actor and probably the last true draw left in Hollywood. Still, you can be all these things and dumb as the turd sitting next to the dog house in the backyard.

Prisoner105,

Please cite your Will Smith statement. I just want to make sure Will Smith said something that stupid before I go telling everyone I know about it.

Could the Europeans possibly be wanting the 'worst' for us. Or could they just be finally believing Hollywoods forty year anti-American propaganda effort.

DH are you surprised? Right after 9/11 Smith said he could not feel sorry for the victims because no "Black People" were in the towers which were "symbols of oppression" or words to that effect. Which is both BS (a number of Black people died in the Towers, the Towers were a symbol of commerce not oppression) and monumentally stupid.

That's Will Smith. He's always been like that.

I think I speak for everyone in saying that the use of celebrity caricatures to headline items like this needs to become a regular thing. :)
