Chatty Kathy — [Rich]

As you may have noticed, Katherine Heigl has developed the rather obnoxious habit of critiquing projects she’s been associated with after-the-fact; be it her Emmy snub or calling Knocked Up “sexist.”

It paints women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints men as goofy, fun-loving guys. It was hard for me to love that movie.

Maybe Ms. Heigl isn’t familiar with the definition of “shrew” (a scolding or ill-tempered woman), but alleging that Knocked Up paints women as humorless and uptight, while sounding completely humorless and uptight may not be the best way to make your point. Good thing Seth Rogen was in Australia promoting Pineapple Express and responded, albeit in a mostly goofy and fun-loving way. Weird.

[I]t would have been nice if she’d said something while we were making the movie. In one of the hundreds of conversations we all had about about our thoughts and feelings about the material and one of the many conversations where Judd was asking us for input. … There’s an extremely long rehearsal process solely dedicated to having those conversations so, yeah, I thought it was weird. I mean, it won a Women’s Image Network Award. That that! She can take it up with them.

She seems the picture of uptight, humorless shrew in real life.

I certainly dig when an actor shoots from the hip … it’s exhausting to hear interviews where actors say so-and-so is ‘amazing’ over and again.

That said, Rogen completely undresses Heigl with his good-natured retort.

Casting for Knocked Up - excellent. Katherine Heigl’s self-awareness - not so much. ;)

Why didn’t she criticize the film’s script WHILE IT WAS BEING MADE?

gee, i sure hope she get better writers, who recognize her cruciality to the show and develop storylines more befitting a diva of her stature.

She does realize that she’s a forgettable flash in the pan who once her ten seconds of fame are up, she’ll be in the same boat as Julia Ormond, Gretchen Mol, and whoever else I can’t remember anymore. Or maybe she doesn’t.

(and I may have gotten their names wrong because I can’t remember who they are anyway)

Oh so beautiful and oh so stupid and shrewish……

Heigl’s REAL objection is that her character, played by her, was paired up with a slacker character of no status/power, played by Seth Rogan. A guy who’s type, no matter how successful, Heigl would never even give the time of day, let alone have sex with.

Katherine Heigl is a very beautiful woman, and has as a beautiful woman had the ability to brush back “slackers” and those who don’t make the cut, constantly. To be paired in a film with Seth Rogan instead of a “hunky” guy like say, Daniel Craig or Brendan Fraser or someone like that must be humiliating.

It’s all about her perceived humiliation in being with a less attractive character in the film. Nothing more or less.

This translation of Hollywood speak to English, has been provided as a public service.

The lack of self awareness is blinding but what this makes me think most is that she will be getting less work for a very good reason (publicly badmouthing productions she’s involved with) and than blaming it on some form of sexism.

For some reason she reminds me of Gary Sheffield.

I think Rogan is an idiot. Not only does this guy promoting “pot is good” in his interviews, but he contradicting himself from last year. It’s well known that Knocked Up, along with all of Apatow’s films, is completely on improv. What is shown in the script during rehersals would make to no sense to what Heigl’s objections where. Rogan, Apatow, and Co. has said many times they threw out the script. So what Heigl read to get the part wasn’t exactly depicted on-screen. What is on paper and on screen are two different things. Anybody in hollywood could tell you that.

Considering how Apatow makes the film and is constantly bewittling his own cast, then I’m not surprised Heigl didn’t say anything. Judd is a jerk to his castmembers except unless you are in the loser “it’ gang from Freaks and Geeks. I’m glad what Heigl said about Knocked Up, but she also clarified her statement as well which is something pothead Rogan didn’t seem to get the memo. Rogan won’t last past five years because people will slowly get tried of his movies since he has no range. He is just playing himself, and that doesn’t last long in hollywood. I think Rogan is the idiot and male diva, and Heigl is just telling it like it is.

Shawn would have a point…if KU was the only project she had badmouthed.

Anyway, I’d rather watch Rogen in anything than Heigl in romcom pap like 27 Dresses anyday. And she wasn’t even bad in it (and she’s quite enjoyable to look at on the screen) — but it’s clear from her choice of roles that she goes for the big payday first and foremost - not quality material. So she should STFU when the end product is dissatisfying. Was 27 Dresses improvised too? Boring, predictable stuff she signed onto when she could have done anything.

They improv dialog, the plot and characters are set during the rehearsals.

And even if the ENTIRE movie was improved and they had no idea who was who or what was going to happen (which BTW is not the way this kind of improv works) that would mean the women improved being shrews and are responsible for what Heigl is complaining about.
