Think about it– nearly every group that has started out filling an actual need– giving voice to people who had not yet had one in our society– blacks, gays, special needs, etc.– has become irrelevant when society responded. However, these groups haven’t gone away, and need to justify their existence, and do so by constantly decrying imagined injustice.

Without waiting for the legitimacy of laws, liberals on campus have extended PC “Hate Crime” charges to whole thought blocs: even politely questioning their dogmas on Affirmative Action, Gaypolitics, Gender Politics, etc. Educators (Harvard’s Larry Summers) are routinely fired and students expelled for the crime of not being a liberal serf. Meanwhile, indoctrination during orientation is mandatory. Then there’s the persecution of grade sabotage on one hand while subsidizing the other.
BTW, “bans” aside, using “retarded” is in fact offensive. Imagine if you had a mentally retarded child struggling to even approach normalcy throughout a childhood, and heard the label gloated everywhere. It’s the equivalent of Gimp, only internalized to essence. You ever hear of “he’d even make fun of a cripple”? It misses the point because it excuses stupidity as involuntary, while “stupid” is a willful character flaw.
