Convention Open Thread — I’ll Drop In Now And Again

Final thought: I love Ronald Reagan, but after Sarah Palin’s speech I miss him a little less. He’s watching. He’s okay with that.

Think about it: We chant “U.S.A.” They chant “O-ba’ma.”

Stephen F. Hayes:The speech was a masterpiece. She was gentle, but not gauzy; and then tough but not nasty. Her speech inched right up to too-negative line, but never crossed it. She stepped on her applause lines, but in an odd way, it came off as endearing — as if the adulation from the audience was almost unexpected.

“One sign of how good it was: The Obama campaign was reduced to praising Palin’s delivery and attacking the speechwriter, Matt Scully, because he worked for George W. Bush. Lame. Better to have not put out any statement at all. I’m told — and was told before the speech — that she had a strong hand in writing and rewriting the speech, working on for several hours over the past three days.”

ON CNN: The liberal men keep saying. “yeah, she reads a teleprompter pretty well — reading someone elses speech.” That’s just desperation.

Victor David Hanson:  ”Tonight I flipped to CNN and was struck by the talking heads flipping out about the Giuliani/Palin mocking of community organizers—as if the Obama team’s dismissals of “small-town” mayors was fair play. The MSM networks are going ballistic at her speech and apparently never imagined that anyone would dare bite back—and also at them, the ‘elite media’ of the press, no less!

“Compared to what Kerry et al. said about McCain, Palin was no tougher on the other side, so it is odd to hear CNN female pundits suddenly shocked, shocked that a “woman” would dare attack a man like that, and that it may “not play” outside the hall. Like it or now we are back in a cultural and populist war, brought on by a week of liberal character assassination.”

Althouse commenter: “From now on, when a Democrat says ‘But what if McCain drops dead on his first day in office?!?!?!’ I’m going to say ‘dude — don’t tease me like that.’”

Hugh Hewitt:  ”This will be a magnificent campaign, and she a magnificent candidate.”

Styrofoam columns!  “But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed … when the roar of the crowd fades away … when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger … take more of your money … give you more orders from Washington … and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world.”

UPDATE: This awful liberal woman speaking for Obama on CNN just accused Palin of using her family as … wait for it … wait for it … “props.”

UPDATE: Harry Reid just called Palin “Shrill.”  What a loser.

Swoon: “I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening. We tend to prefer candidates who don’t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.”

UPDATE: I keep hearing Dems talk about how they’re going to run against Palin. Palin! When’s the last time you heard the opposition party talk about running against the VP?

They are terrified. Me? I’m in love. She had me at, “I put it on ebay.”

Summing up: the night was a total home run and Sarah Palin’s political debut out of the wilds of nowhere is the single most impressive political ascent I have ever seen. She was magnificent. She followed a magnificent speech made by America’s Mayor and still knocked it out of the park.

Governor Palin didn’t whine like Hillary about the media — she said, “Bring it on, you elitist prigs.” She’s not playing The Girl, she’s playing the role every Vice President plays.

Her poise, delivery, and way with a barb is absolutely uncanny. And make no mistake about it, this women is seductive. Every time she her voice changed and she slipped the knife in I wanted to pack a bag and leave my wife — and I love my wife!

Sarah Palin is a star. And she’s one of us. Her political jiu jitsu is beyond brilliant. All those things the liberal media used to diminish her…? She turned them against Obama. All that elitist snobbery we’ve seen towards small towns and women from these awful liberals the past four days just got dumped on their One.

Sarah Palin stepped forward tonight and sucked the air and excitement  from the room and announced herself a player. Not a woman. A player.

Be ready. This thing’s gonna get even uglier now. The elite, liberal media’s been humiliated and they will fight like the evil dogs they are to destroy her now. But we got the hockey mom and the war hero. They got hairplugs and words.

Tonight … I like our chances. the game is on.

Round up:

Jim Geraghty: “Tonight, we either saw a watershed in American politics, a tour de force, the most striking and graceful debut in our nation’s political life, and a national introduction that makes Barack Obama’s 2004 convention address look like small potatoes… or we saw what we wanted to see, and the country’s persuadable independents saw something else. I’m afraid to believe. If I’m wrong, I don’t really know what Americans want.”

Hi-lites:

“Our opponents say that drilling alone won’t solve all of our energy problems — as if we didn’t already know that. The fact that drilling won’t solve every problem isn’t an excuse to do nothing at all.”

“This man has authored two memoirs, but no major law, not even in the state senate.”

“…Self-designed presidential seals.”

Harry Reid: “‘I can’t stand John McCain.’ Ladies and gentleman, no praise we hear this week will make it any clearer than that. Clearly, what the Majority Leader meant is that he can’t stand up to John McCain.”

“To seek the presidency is not to be a journey of personal discovery.”

“There is really only one man in this election who has ever fought for you.”

Lisa Schiffren at NRO:The Most Impressive Woman Speaker I have ever heard, was Sarah Palin, tonight. (Always excepting Thatcher.) It took Hillary 16 years in the public eye, and she never quite got there. The speech was brilliantly written. It gave Palin room to introduce herself, to be funny (the difference between hockey moms and pit bulls — lipstick!), to be strong, to be charming, to be tough, and to display amazing political talent. She backed down on nothing. Her pokes at Obama were masterful. She wielded the knife with a smile on her face. Who knew that the response to his gibes at small town Americans being bitter was to put a small town mayor out there to defend the honor of normal Americans?

“God and guns never looked better.”

Excerpt:

Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.

And children with special needs inspire a special love.

To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.

I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.

    Awwwww….yeah:

    Partying Republicans on CSPAN alert!!

  13. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:25 pm 13

Alan Colmes should just shut the fick up. What a moron. God a chicken knows more about stuff than he does. Its like is he a robot? A Manbot? No wait…that would imply he is actually male and we aren’t sure…nor do I want to be sure….

  14. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:27 pm 14

OK Huckabee…I’d get a glass of wine in the lounge and then go back for Rudy.

  15. Tangoon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:35 pm 15

Geez, Steph…dont hold back. (i love dis woman)

  16. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:36 pm 16

Must say it….Alan Colmes is a total idiot. Why would anyone ask Newt Gingrich that question….Does it bother you she is less qualified to be President than you are? WTF? Newt is thinking I gotta tell Armey and the old guard what this pissant asked me.

  17. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:36 pm 17

    A class act by McCain.

  18. Tangoon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:38 pm 18

Colmes reminds me of that friggin roach in Mimic.

  19. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:39 pm 19

Yep Alan Colmes there is a face for Radio……Don’t know why would any self respecting man want to be known as Sean Hannity’s bitch?

  20. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:46 pm 20

We should all get HD glasses.

  21. a. acaciaon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:46 pm 21

Gotta say, Huckabee impressed. He had the crowd standing and cheering and eating up every word. And that story about the teacher and desks…woa! PBS cut to one old vet in the crowd who had tears in his eyes.

    Beautifully crafted speech.

  22. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:48 pm 22

I like Juan Williams. I disagree with him but he is very level headed in my opinion.

  23. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:49 pm 23

Watching it on HD….and John Kasich may run for Ohio Gov. Now if he runs, wins and then decides I like Pennsylvania Avenue he has my undying support. Doodeedoodeedoo.

  24. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:51 pm 24

I love Rudy Giuliani and Judith is awesome no matter what anyone says!

  25. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:54 pm 25

26 minutes to the speech according to the FN countdown.

  26. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:55 pm 26

Cindy McCain will be a beautiful first lady. And John’s Mom is there..96 and travels all over! AWESOME!

  27. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:56 pm 27

I agree Steph. McCain’s mom is one tough cookie. People are worried about him being 72 but she’s 96 and I think she could kick my a**. I think he has plenty of good years left in him with her genes.

  28. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:56 pm 28

Rudy is another Republican that was roasted by the same msm media that couldn’t get their nose out of Bubba’s ass. Man, you’d have thought getting a BJ in the White House was deserving the same amount of attention as John Edwards having an affair.

    I see nothing! Nothing!

  29. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 6:58 pm 29

If Rudy runs for Gov. and wins he has a chance to really make a mark as far as Presidential politics.

  30. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:00 pm 30

I really wish more of Fox’s shows were in HD. I like that the coverage is. Granted I’m not too excited to see Alan Colmes in HD but still.

  31. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:01 pm 31

    RUDY!!!!! :D

  32. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:01 pm 32

    RUDY RUDY RUDY RUDY RUDY…

  33. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:05 pm 33

Rudy is a hell of a speaker….better than Zeus by more than half.

  34. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:06 pm 34

I agree, Steph. He is awesome. America’s mayor indeed. :)

  35. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:07 pm 35

Is it ok that I’m calling you Steph?

  36. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:07 pm 36

Yes and what is a community organizer?WHAT?

  37. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:08 pm 37

    “7:06 - We chant “U.S.A.” They chant “O-ba-ma.””

    Hahahahahaha

So true, DH. Says so much right there.

  38. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:08 pm 38

Rudy is making it sound like Obama’s resume is weak. Oh wait….IT IS!

  39. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:09 pm 39

    Great audience reaction! :D

  40. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:09 pm 40

    Rudy is on a roll!

  41. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:09 pm 41

Think if Rudy has run for the Senate in 2000. History could have been very different.

  42. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:10 pm 42

Giuliani should be a commedian. I swear……….the kind of thing that only happens in America and then the eye brows go up……..heh. I am married to an Italian….tehy rule.

  43. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:10 pm 43

The great thing about what Rudy is saying is it’s all true!

  44. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:11 pm 44

    What is the crowd yelling?

  45. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:11 pm 45

You all realize that McCain is going to kick Obama’s ass in the debates.

  46. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:12 pm 46

Compared to the Barackapolis speech, the people in the audience actually understand English and aren’t cheering like a bunch of trained seals.

  47. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:12 pm 47

Keep it up? I think they are saying. I’d be yelling ROOODY ROOODY!

  48. Tommy Von 03 Sep 2008 at 7:13 pm 48

Am I very biased or is Giulianni just dismantling Obama?

  49. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:13 pm 49

My God! Rudy is ruthless! In a good way, of course ;)

Change is not a destination just as hope is not a strategy.

  50. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:14 pm 50

He is dismantling Obama. Christ if he were the Nominee? But Mac will do it fine. KICK HIS ASS! oh wait a new chant at a debate….KICK HIS ASS JOHN! KICK HIS ASS JOHN!

  51. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:14 pm 51

Tommy V, you are right. This is a dismantling!

  52. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:14 pm 52

    Tommy Von 03 Sep 2008 at 7:13 pm 48

“Am I very biased or is Giulianni just dismantling Obama?”

I’d say both. But I’m right along with you. :)

  53. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:15 pm 53

Drill baby drill! Drill baby drill!

  54. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:15 pm 54

Rudy made a mistake waiting to campaign until FL but you really have to wonder if he wouldn’t have done really well in Iowa and NH had he tried.

  55. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:16 pm 55

Change is not a destination just as hope is not a strategy.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
THE QUOTE OF THE CONVENTION SO FAR!

  56. Ginaon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:16 pm 56

Careful what you wish for, Stephanie — if Rudy were the nominee we’d lose half the base. I’m not even sure I could drag myself into that voting booth. He can rally the convention — let’s be glad for that, and leave it at that.

  57. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:16 pm 57

Rudy is perfect for a speech in a big hall.

  58. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:17 pm 58

I think so too Johnny. It was a risk to wait until Florida and unfortunately it didn’t pay off.

  59. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:18 pm 59

Nope I was all for Romney but dammit I would have gone for Rudy in a heart beat. Ohh now he is going after Harry Reid…GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  60. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:18 pm 60

…the Democrats gave up on America.

    Rudy stating the obvious.

  61. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:19 pm 61

Id crawl over broken glass for Rudy Giuliani! What a leader!

  62. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:20 pm 62

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    That was awesome!!!!

  63. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:20 pm 63

If I was Joe Biden, I would get that VP thing in writing!

Laughed out loud at that one.

  64. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:21 pm 64

Rudy is great at slicing Obama up while never losing his smile.

  65. Jack Marinoon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:21 pm 65

McCain MUST make Rudy our Attorney Gemera; so he can go after all the Dems for treason and those Hollywood idiots deported or shot.

  66. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:22 pm 66

    another good one!

    Next time call John McCain!

  67. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:23 pm 67

Hey, don’t blame Obama for not knowing about the security council veto. They don’t teach that in madrasa’s.

  68. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:23 pm 68

Megyn Kelly is an attorney so she can be Rudy’s executioner.

  69. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:24 pm 69

Damn this is a good speech. Better than Freds. Have an idea. next election instead of teh usual primaries. They all get to stand up in front of state delegates and make speeches…we all vote. Whomever rocks the arena gets the candidacy. Rudy is awesome. AWESOME!

  70. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:24 pm 70

…cosmopolitan enough! As the knife get’s twisted a little deeper.

  71. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:24 pm 71

God almighty! Rudy is brutal! Maybe they cling to religion there!

  72. Tommy Von 03 Sep 2008 at 7:25 pm 72

    “Next time call John McCain”

    This is devastating.

Did the DNC have any speech like this?

  73. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:26 pm 73

The only thing Democrats like about Alaska is that it’s a short trip to visit their commie friends in Russia.

  74. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:26 pm 74

Hey we like BRUTAL! Brutal WINS ELECTIONS! Reagan was brutal he smiled when he was crushing people…THERE YOU GO AGAIN….does that hurt..ok I will make it hurt more….

  82. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:29 pm 82

    This is it. :)

  83. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:29 pm 83

    Don’t stop the cheering!!!

  84. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:30 pm 84

I can hear the cheering all the way in Chicago. :D

  85. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:32 pm 85

We are happy to give it!

  86. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:32 pm 86

I think I just felt a tingle run up my leg.

  87. the405on 03 Sep 2008 at 7:34 pm 87

  88. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:34 pm 88

  89. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:34 pm 89

STOP THAT MR! THATS BAD JUJU! NO TINGLES!

  90. the405on 03 Sep 2008 at 7:35 pm 90

    Looking at Sarah…

    I’m feeling a tingle

  91. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:36 pm 91

Great response to the military! Didn’t hear that at the dems con.

  92. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:37 pm 92

That was cute when the little girl gave the wave.

  93. The_Rickon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:38 pm 93

she’s got more what we red staters call “sack” than any “men” from the left.
Today’s Metro Lefty men probably can’t even identify a pair of nuts…except when its hitting them in the chin.

  94. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:39 pm 94

MY Dad was a commercial fisherman……….Todd Palin is soo cool!

  95. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:40 pm 95

I am sooooooooooo loving this. She is going about this the right way.

  96. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:41 pm 96

Gee, what a contrast to bitter people clinging to guns and religion.

  97. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:42 pm 97

    Lipstick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  98. Patrickon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:42 pm 98

I have to say she seems pretty natural, she isn’t trying to do too much, she isn’t trying to force anything, she looks very comfortable.

  99. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:43 pm 99

And yes Todd Palin LOVES HIS WIFE!

  100. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:43 pm 100

DH - I am in love.

  101. the405on 03 Sep 2008 at 7:43 pm 101

    Barry just got pwned

  102. amzarakon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:43 pm 102

Let me explain to them what the job involves. a smalltown mayor is like a community organizer except that you have actual responsibilities

  103. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:43 pm 103

Don’t blame Obama for not knowing how to get elected to mayor. He’s from Chicago where the elections are finalized the Monday before the votes are cast.

  104. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:44 pm 104

Obama wins San Fransisco - McCain/Palin win the rest of the country.

  105. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:45 pm 105

…that reason alone. We’re looking at you CNN, MSNBC, Wash Post, NY Time,……..etc

  106. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:46 pm 106

    Perfect response to the media!!

  107. Stephanieon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:46 pm 107

    She is a goddess.

  108. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:46 pm 108

C’mon Sarah, what’s wrong with going to Washington to get some earmarks for your lobbyist son.

  109. Mr24pon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:48 pm 109

One thing really striking me is the look on the faces of a lot of the women in the audience. Real inspiration.

  110. the405on 03 Sep 2008 at 7:49 pm 110

    EBAY! LOL!

  111. Conan O'Lenomanon 03 Sep 2008 at 7:49 pm 111

I can hear the lefties howling already!

    I’m watching Palin’s speech.

First observation: She sounds a little like Frances McDormand in Fargo. This is neither praise nor criticism.

Second observation: The speech is neither better nor worse than any other vice presidential nomination speech I’ve heard in my lifetime.

Third observation: If she gave her consent, I would WRECK this chick. I would do every vile, unspeakable, sexually depraved act that would make even the Marquis de Sade shudder. Something about reasonably attractive, conservative, religious women just does it for me. It must be the thrill of defiling the pure.

A brilliantly written, but more importantly brilliantly delivered speech. I said numerous times before August 28 Palin would be a great pick, now I know she is a incredible pick. One terrific line after another. She will be conservative icon for decades to come. I am sure Obama is glad it is Biden and not himself who has to debate her on October 2.

Under the relentless smear campaign and under unbelievable pressure, Palin came through in spades the way no one else could. Andrew Sullivan is probably not happy right now

I regret not joining in this moment-by-moment commentary, but here are a couple of my thoughts:

-Giuliani = hilarious. That was some sharp wit. He absolutely skewered Obama.

-The crowd gave us the best summation of the campaign: “Zero vs. Hero.”

-I am in love with Sarah Palin. She had poise, grace, and fierce tenacity. She got into more specifics in that one speech than Obama has in his entire campaign, and at the same time managed to deliver some witty one-liners every bit as funny and devastating as Giuliani’s. Obama who?

-Between “I was tied up at the time,” “If I were Biden, I’d want to get that V.P. thing in writing,” and “This is a man who can give a speech about the wars America is fighting and not use the word victory except when talking about his campaign,” the Republicans have definitely won the humor award this election season. Take that, Jon Stewart.

-I want “Some politicians use change to promote their career; others use their career to promote change” on a bumper sticker. Now.

  197. trzupron 03 Sep 2008 at 8:45 pm 197

Just popped into Daily Kos and did a quick scan (feeling my IQ points drop as I read - but I’m all about “team”, guys and gals). (And abe). They are definitely in defcon 1 - or 4 - or whatever the highest is…

The two basic themes there are:

    1) “Huh, don’t see what all the fuss is about. Just sounded like another speech to me.” (Translation: ignore her and she’ll go away - please, please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD - GO AWAY SARAH PALIN!!!!!)

    and

    2) “This woman is a lying, hateful, racist (duh!), BITCH, and HOW DARE SHE insult the Little Messiah, and if she thinks she’s been attacked - well you ain’t see nothing yet, you, you — HUSSY! And your little dog too!” (Translation: they have no clue what they just saw, no concept how to handle it, and no idea who they are taking on).

  198. Ginaon 03 Sep 2008 at 8:48 pm 198

I have this mental image of Joe Biden bursting through a wall to get away from the pit bull, leaving a large Biden-shaped hole like they do in the cartoons.

    (sarcasm)
If you vote Obama, you will start seeing not only change you can believe in, but change like you wouldn’t believe! The RepubliKKKans wish to turn back the clock and enslave the black race once more. Well Obama will do something much better. He will turn back the clock, and prevent the enslavement of African-Americans from ever occurring! He will use his powers to prevent the genocide of the Native Americans!

But why stop with America — he is a citizen of the world! He will stop the British Empire from forming. He will stop the closing-off of Japan, so Commodore Perry would never have to be all imperial and crap. He will stop the Crusades, so the troubles in the Middle East will never exist. And he will stop that pipe-dream of imperialists everywhere — the Roman Empire!

Vote Obama! He is The One who will transcend partisan politics…by transcending time itself.

  209. Glennon 03 Sep 2008 at 8:55 pm 209

I loved her speech. But I do not feel confident about November 4.

Here’s why. Say you pick 100 random voters. Some of them are going to vote for Obama, no matter what. A slightly smaller number of those people are going to vote for McCain, no matter what. About 8 out of 100 voters (currently) are undecided.

Those 8 people are not interested in politics. They were not even watching Palin’s speech. They were watching “Bones” or “American’s Next Top Model,” or talking to their sister-in-law on the phone while Palin was making her speech. They do. Not. Care.

These people will say, “I hate politics because both of the parties keep saying terrible things about the other side. One side says the other side are Nazis. The other side says the other side love terrorists. The other side says the other side hates America. Then the other side says the other side eats babies for breakfast. I can’t stand it!”

These sorts of NON-political people live in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada, and Virginia, and they will elect the next president.

MOST of these people dislike (not hate) George Bush because they have been convinced that Bush started a war that did not have to be fought, and Bush pretty much “screwed up” the economy. I suspect that most of the 8 will go into the booth on November 4 and vote for Obama. I’m sorry, but that is what my gut is telling me. When they come out of the booth, they will say, “I think the country is going in the wrong direction, and it’s time to throw the bums out and give the other side a chance. Let’s see how they do.”

From the leftie “New Republic” Stump blog:

Focus Group: Palin Was (Alarmingly) Strong

Several moderate-Democrat friends of mine have been emailing–few if any would ever vote for McCain–but all agree that Palin was very strong. The more liberal among them are a little panicked.

I completely misjudged how negative she would be. Her lines about Obama were brutally cutting and possibly over the top in places. But she’s a far better messenger than an angry white man. (Note, by the way, how both Rudy and Huckabee employed a tone that was more bemused than angry. That’s the modern GOP’s favorite trick–comedic ridicule in place of outright nastiness.)

Palin surpassed all expectations. She is definitely ready for Prime Time.

    Overall impressions…

    - Mitt Romney delivered the most partisan and, most importantly, Conservative speech of the night. Proof? His speech caused the libtard pundits on PBS all kinds of moonbattery. Their heads nearly exploded. I laughed so hard listening to them profess undying hatred for this man. So Romney scored a KO and set himself up as the true Right-winger in the house. If McCain doesn’t win this time it’s Romney in ‘12.

    - This is the first time I’ve ever heard Mike Huckabee deliver a speech and he hit it OUT.OF.THE.PARK. He had the audience in the palm of his hand. If you missed that speech, you missed a true work of art. Watch it on YouTube.

    - McCain is a huge fan of Teddy Roosevelt (so am I), and I think he sees a lot of Teddy in Sarah Palin. Rugged individualist. Gun afficionado. Reformer. Teddy was a bull moose and Sarah is a barracuda. Teddy never flinched and, if appears, neither does Sarah.

    - As for Rudy, the less said about that cross-dressing gun-grabber, the better. Amazing how you people forget so quick.

“Just the kind of snarky, phoney, stuck-up bitches I hated in highschool.” (And I’ll toss in an all-encompassing ’sic’, so I don’t have to correct all that).

    Translation:

Palin is not going to attract the vast “nerdy losers who couldn’t get a date in the 11th grade” voting bloc.

No - that’s not entirely true.

    I’M voting for her!

    Rudy was AMAZING.
His description of Obama’s “resume” was hilarious. He skewered Obama.

Now Sarah had a somewhat weak start, but once she got going, SHE WAS A LOCOMOTIVE BABY!!!

At one point during her speech my Dad turned to me and said “She’s gonna be handful for Obama.”

My Mom told us that it was only a matter of time before Michelle Obama says something stupid about Sarah Palin.

  234. misterdon 03 Sep 2008 at 9:21 pm 234

Obama nearly cracked under the strain of “Celebrity” and “The One”.

He was incensed over McCain trumping his show when he announced Palin.

I cannot imagine how he will handle the speeches by Rudy and Palin tonight. Palin filleted him effortlessly, effectively, and with humor, attacking him on the very points his proxy’s have been trying to hurt her with. There should be no question how this woman beat out the entrenched powers of her own state.

My God yes. No fear. None at all. When it comes down to dealing with Putin and his cronies, or Iran, or whomever - could there be a greater contrast? On the one hand, you have the stuttering, depressed, self-absorbed would-be messiah, running for President. And then you have this magnificent, confident, clear-minded everywoman running for VP. The contrast is just - mind boggling.

Well, Kit, ever since Michelle chewed off her foot with that ode to victimhood, her handlers have tried to muzzle her. Let’s see if they can keep the die-hard militant Michelle under wraps but I’m betting they can’t. She’s just too damn angry.

  260. Johnny Ed's Babyon 03 Sep 2008 at 9:40 pm 260

I love Mathews trying to work up talking points for Biden with Howard Fineman.

Nervous does not do justice to how they feel. More like fear.

  261. That was a thing of beauty to watch, and tonight’s post wrote itself. I was in love with her before, but I now have no doubts at all that she will have no trouble handling the left from this point forward. ANY woman who has been slimed the way she has in the press and still looks straight into the camera and tells the Fourth Estate in no uncertain terms that she does not serve at their pleasure has my vote for life.

  262. Stosh from da Stickson 03 Sep 2008 at 9:40 pm 262

Don’t know how many of you watched the Fox post-mortems on the speech, but for me Krauthammer was the most interesting (and for my money, he’s the most incisive conservative pundit going).

Krauthammer was full of praise for Sarah’s speech, and conceded that she can be a real game-breaker for McCain. But at the end, he fell back on his initial position on the choice of Palin - that it was too big a risk because it takes experience off the table.

As much as I admire K (and I’ll freely admit he could eat my lunch on damn near any topic), I don’t think he’s thought this one through (and maybe the McCain people haven’t either).

But what they need to do is a little jiu-jitsu on this one - turn Palin’s modest resume into a plus by ALWAYS using it to force attention on Obama’s even MORE modest resume.

The line of attack needs to be “Not only does our presidential candidate’s experience outshine that of your presidential candidate, but even our relatively young VICE-PRESIDENTIAL candidate is better qualified”.

And when they need to back that up, all they have to do is watch how Newt took on some jerkweed reporter who was stupid enough to ask Gingrich about Palin’s qualifications - when Newt was done pointing out how much more Palin had done than Obama, the reporter could barely figure out how to slink away quickly enough.

Note also all the detailed references to foreign policy issues related to energy that Palin slipped in her speech - I expect that will be the hook that the McCain will use to hang the “Palin’s better qualified that Obama” theme on.

One other point - the left’s strategy to denigrate Palin’s speech is make smug references that “her speech writer did a really good job”. Like Obama writes his own stuff.

  264. trzupron 03 Sep 2008 at 9:43 pm 264

Winning wankette’s bet would be way too easy. The obvious answer is: “as soon as anybody asks Michelle a question about Sarah”.

However, seeing as I am also happily married, I will have to - reluctantly - pass on what I am certain would be a very enjoyable prize. ;)

Stosh from da Sticks, what Krauthammer (and other conservative pundits) seem to be missing is the effect that Palin has on the base.

There are a LOT of Republicans that don’t like McCain (count me in that group … I’m never going to completely forgive him for trying to revoke the 1st Amendment).

There are (were?) a LOT of Republicans that were either going to stay home or throw the lever for Barr.

Without the base McCain would most assuredly lose (along with a lot more in the house and senate because of the stay home effect).

Just go back and read many of the almost 270 posts before this one … Republicans are EXCITED to vote for their candidate for the first time since 1984 (none of us were all that excited about either Bush, nor Dole).

Furthermore, I don’t buy his notion that Palin takes the experience issue off the table (frankly she has more executive experience than Obama, Biden, McCain or Hillary).

  277. trzupron 03 Sep 2008 at 10:05 pm 277

Agreed Stosh. I saw a lot of the “speech writer gets the credit” dismissals on DU and Dk. Proof - as I know you know - how much this speech kicked them in the nuts.

Three points (and again, preachin’ to the choir):

    1) Having written a few speeches in my time for candidates, unless said candidate is a moron (aka Barry), it is the candidate - and yes, with the input of senior staff - who define the tone and messages that are to be delivered. I have written many for an Illinois pol who is much like Palin, and she always tells me, quite clearly, what she wants to say and how forcefully, or humorously, or subtly she wants the message, and then it’s up to my literary skills to make it happen. And, I have never written one that she has not modified, to a greater or lesser extent, at the end of the day so that it fits “her”. I am sure it was so with Palin.

    2) No matter how good the text of the speech, delivery is everything. A good speech, poorly delivered, is a waste of time. It was obvious to everyone that Palin bought in, utterly and completely, to every word that she said. She was marvelous.

    3) I have always believed that one of Reagan’s great advantages, especially against morose opponents like Carter and Dukakis, was his sense of humor. You either have one or you don’t. Palin demonstrated that she knows how to laugh tonight, not only at the folly of her opponents but (like Reagan) at herself as well. The value of this trait can not be overestimated, in my view anyway.

  278. Stosh from da Stickson 03 Sep 2008 at 10:08 pm 278

    Zund…,

You’re spot on about Palin psyching up the base - as I pointed out to my brother, up until the choice of Palin, McCain had shown himself capable of compromising with everybody *except* the conservative base.

Sarah isn’t full repayment for that record of dissing the base, but she’s one hell of a downpayment.

That having been said, in terms of the big picture, Krauthammer’s got a point. But like most of the Washington/NewYork punditry, I think he may have a tendency to overlook the importance of the GOP base … out here in the ’sticks’.

  279. Jack Marinoon 03 Sep 2008 at 10:09 pm 279

We are watching the fall of the liberal democratic empire. It is being destroyed by a small time mayor in the biggest state in the Union. The liberals were always a house of cards and it has taken 60 years for the conservative to finally figure it our and we have this female David who is going to take down the leftist Goliath.

She just nukes Obama and his co-horts in the media. Now this is WAR and the libs are going to get so over the top dirty in attacking her, because she is a real threat to their pagan religion and their sacrament of abortion. This is going to get to a level of nastiness that none of us have ever been exposed too.

I love the dig, she threw at Michelle my belle, the she was always proud of her country.

We will live to see the end of Obama, Hillary and all leftist everywhere.

  280. Immoraliston 03 Sep 2008 at 10:09 pm 280

What a hot little number Palin is. She and I could make another disabled child together any day of the week.

  281. Tommy Von 03 Sep 2008 at 10:11 pm 281

What I love about Palin’s experience is that it is always compared to Obama’s…

It doesn’t take it off the table at all. It puts it back into the discussion even in the liberal media.

John McClain just nominated the 18 month Governor of a not too populous state who has stronger reform credentials than he does.

She doesn’t take experience off the table, but highlights his lack of experience even more.

I have no idea if that was part of the plan, but my goodness it just seems brilliant. If she has so little experience and has that many more accomplishments… why hasn’t he done more.

My liberal friends have all been debating with me if Obama has more experience than her. It’s hilarious. They have no idea how absurd it is that they even have to debate that right after ridiculing her lack of experience.

That’s the sort of thing that enters the public psyche.

  282. Carolynon 03 Sep 2008 at 10:13 pm 282

Oh, God! Stephanie is going to crash through the ceiling!

On C-Span just now, they were asking an ‘expert’ (some blonde) as to how the blogs were evaluating Palin’s speech.

The blonde said that she’d surfed 2 conservative blogs. The first was ‘RedState’ which exploded in delight over the speech. But the second ‘conservative’ site did NOT.

The second site was?????? Andrew Sullivan. (BTW, Sullivan did NOT mention Palin’s speech at all. Instead, he whined about how Guiliani’s speech was disrespectful to gays. And Andrew’s feelings were very hurt by that.)

The blonde then looked straight at the camera and REPEATED that Sullivan was a ‘conservative’.

After I cleaned up the projectile vomit from the screen (too late I remember why I don’t watch TV anymore), my first thought was - ohmigod, Stephanie is going to go through the fricking ROOF! over this!

    How you doing, Stephanie?

Nerd guys love Palin. She shoots guns, hunts, fishes, etc. She’s Lara Croft come to life. Guys always loved her.

It’s always been women who have had the problems. Tonight, Palin sealed the deal with Moms. She hit it … OUT OF THE PARK. Speech was excellent and funny, matching the god-like humor of Rudy, or Huckabee (who was great, even though I don’t like him at all) or Mitt (who was thoughtful and intelligent).

    But, the visuals –

Her family was ADORABLE. Not trailer-trash but clean-cut, cute, “normal,” and well, very attractive. The youngest, Piper, licking her hand and smoothing down baby Trig’s hair, and kissing him.

THAT right there friends was a HUGE visual of who/what Sarah Palin is.

The various rumors and such will continue. They won’t go away. It’ll just get worse. But Palin is clearly going to fight them, every step of the way, along with her family.

It’s like a Tom Petty Song “Won’t Back Down.”

But the visuals of the adorable, handsome/pretty family, instead of the designer kids of the Obama’s (fashion accessories not family members) who have a sprawling, “messy” and ordinary life connects clearly and absolutely with every parent in America. Now that’s still a minority, sadly, particularly given the epidemic of single motherhood, but it’s something.

As noted, the base loves her like Ronnie. God I miss Reagan.

To sum up: Obama and the O-croplis: designer Yuppie Family. Palin: real American family.

Some of the smartest attorneys were from state schools and other ones you probably can’t pronounce.

The attorney from HLS decided to fire his secretary the following week so he wrote it in his calendar. The calendar he had his secretary check every day. It was funny watching him try to explain it to her when she asked.

So no, I’m not ready to bow down to my superiors from HLS.

What a beautifully balanced speech, shifting between smalltown frankness and warmth, patriotic eloquence and sharp wit. Best of all, her authenticity came off the stage in waves. What a great moment for conservatives and, in light of the past week, for America. The country saw a woman emerge from a hell of vicious character assaults with grace, good humor and command of the issues. I agree with those who feel grateful to live in a country that could produce such a woman.

Let’s posit that Obama knows more meanings of words than the average bear. I would rather have a president that knew such basics as the number of states in the union (not 57), the number of years a twice elected president serves (not “8 to 10″ - hell even counting from the day he said it wouldn’t make a full 9) and that Arabic translators are not exactly a highly needed specialty in Afghanistan.

Obama is smaaaaart in some ways, but apparently the Information section of the WAIS would certainly drag down his score.

He knows how to play to a jury’s emotions, that’s for sure. That’s one part of knowing how to be a lawyer. There are other parts.

    JEB,

“I don’t think he’s a real lawyer. It’s rare you’ll find one making an argument unless they are getting paid.”

As someone who works with real lawyers on a day to day basis, I can assure you that this particular troll is not one of them. The statement “We in the legal profession look after our own” is not something that anyone who practices law would ever utter. It’s more akin to what someone would say if they got their JD and then were bitterly disappointed to find that they could not latch on to a law firm.

Real lawyers love going after their own. Real lawyers delight it smashing their opponents in the profession. They will celebrate defeating the (less talented) of their own, but they don’t give a crap about “looking after” the competition. The smaller the pool to compete for files, the better.

    Cheers,

Geez, until she started talking, the msm was expecting her to come out in a housedress and slippers. After all, she is from a small town in AK that has a budget smaller than what Obama spends in one month.

You claim to be a real lawyer. Prove it. Law School 101. Explain the difference between a regulation and a statue.

Easy. Legislatures pass statutes that are presented to and signed/vetoed by an executive official, typically the president (federal) or a governor (state). A “regulation” is a species of administrative law promulgated by an executive agency/administration that has been granted the authority by a legislature (via statute) to exercise control over certain matters.

    Do I pass?

  354. I would hardly call schmoozing clients “extemporizing.” Dealing with clients is easy. Convincing an audience of more than single digits is a bit harder.

Schmoozing clients? That’s what you do when you go out to lunch with them or meet them at a social function outside of work. Teleconferencing and doing a line by line read with them of a new contract, complaint, or over the top commercial lease, and dealing with questions as they arise is called “being an attorney.”

Dealing with clients is easy? I suppose so, but earning and keeping their trust, sometimes for decades, takes more than “Schmoozing”.

  355. trzupron 03 Sep 2008 at 11:34 pm 355

    A Statute:

A law enabled by a duly elected legislative body (e.g.; Congress, or a state legislature).

    A Regulation:

A “rule” by which a regulatory body assumes the authority granted to it by the governing legislative body, defining the limits of its power and by which the regulatory body assumes authority and enforceforcement power under applicaple laws.

    No, you do not pass.

    You are hereafter ignored.

Dealing with clients is easy? I suppose so, but earning and keeping their trust, sometimes for decades, takes more than “Schmoozing”.

Well, yes, I agree. The client expects you to know the matter(s) of law that pertain to your representation of the client. However, I wouldn’t necessarily deem any explanation of law with which you are familiar to be an extemporization. I think of extemporizing to be more along the lines of giving a good speech off the cuff without first being intimately familiar with the details of a topic upon which you are extemporizing. That’s what good politicians do. And, for whatever his other faults (which, I’m sure, are many), Obama is a good extemporizer.

  359. Jack Marinoon 03 Sep 2008 at 11:41 pm 359

  360. LickMyBallson 03 Sep 2008 at 11:46 pm 360

    No, you do not pass.

    You are hereafter ignored.

I think not. My definition was pretty good, given that I had only five minutes. I touched upon all the essential points. You appear to be docking me because I didn’t mention that legislatures were “duly elected.” As for my definition of “regulation,” you are penalizing me for not using the exact words you used.

    You are hereafter sodomized.

  361. Well, yes, I agree. The client expects you to know the matter(s) of law that pertain to your representation of the client. However, I wouldn’t necessarily deem any explanation of law with which you are familiar to be an extemporization.

Except my life would be very boring if all the questions were on topics that fit the “textbook” template. I am fortunate in that nearly every matter that lands on my desk is fraught with elements outside the “textbook” set of circumstances. The ability to extemporize, and find the answer is why clients come to see me rather than going to the Darth Vader firms for representation. They frequently cause the problems. Little guys like me get to fix them.

  362. anthonyon 03 Sep 2008 at 11:48 pm 362

Except my life would be very boring if all the questions were on topics that fit the “textbook” template. I am fortunate in that nearly every matter that lands on my desk is fraught with elements outside the “textbook” set of circumstances.

Every good lawyer understands that a client isn’t going to ask questions that read like the “Issues” section of a legal brief. I’m sure you know that.

Well, the night is old, and I think it’s time to sleep. I end this lovely flame fest by wishing the best of luck to the lawyers who participated. Hopefully we’ll meet “in the battlefield” (i.e., federal court, most likely) someday, and then we can really tear each other new ones.

    Ta-ta!

  365. And I apologize to everyone else who witnessed this sorry spectacle. We aren’t all overbearing jerks with delusions that the law degree makes us better than everyone else. Unfortunately, the ones that are tend to shout over the rest of us and waft through a conversation like a paint-stripping fart loosed by an offender who has long since fled the scene of the crime.

    Good night all.

Unfortunately, the ones that are tend to shout over the rest of us and waft through a conversation like a paint-stripping fart loosed by an offender who has long since fled the scene of the crime.

A beautiful simile. Did you come up with it on your own, or did you swipe it from a book? If you did get it from a book, please reveal it.

Having watched every convention speech since 1968, tonight was not only the best it is the only one I have watched more than once.

Having watched it live on Fox, I watched the replay on MSNBC and again on Fox. The only politician’s speech I ever warched more than once in full was Reagen’s speech in Normandy.

This woman is a natural and she will never sneak up on a political opponent again. Fine with me! Thatcher was effective after people knew what she could do. Of course Olby and Mathews want to see her do it again so I guess not everyone believes.

Speaking of MSNBC, when Kelly O’Donnel was going the over the high spots of the speech that were effective, Maddow had a look on her face like she had swallowed poison. For her it was a beautiful look. Nothing like giving her constipation.

It’s hard to believe it’s been less than a week since that rally in Dayton. If she hadn’t referenced the styrafoam columns, I would have forgotten that other speech last week.

I am so looking forward to the next two months.

  368. Conan O'Lenomanon 04 Sep 2008 at 1:22 am 368

Hillary Clintin is cackling herself to sleep right now. Sarah Palin is sleeping the sleep of the just. Joe Biden is checking his contract with Odismal.

    Goodnight and thanks all, DH.

  369. Manbearpigon 04 Sep 2008 at 1:26 am 369

LickMyBalls you are a fucking dipshit asshole spunkbucket piece of shit, and you’re damn lucky I’m nowhere near you because if I were, I’d beat the ever loving SHIT out of you for being the ignorant asshole you are.

Go back selling drugs to kids you uneducated cuntrag. The adults are talking.

  370. Manbearpigon 04 Sep 2008 at 1:35 am 370

Not only that, you’re only here because you’re pissed that Sarah Palin did such an awesome job tonight. You just aren’t bright enough to make any decent arguments against what she said in her speech, so you come here bitching about some stupid word and lying about being a fucking lawyer.

Fuck off and die in a fire, goatfucker.

  372. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 1:57 am 372

I didn’t think it was possible, but Andrew Sullivan has sunk to a new low. He thinks Twig was sedated to sleep through the speech.

They’re getting a seat ready in a special ring off hell for the queen bee blogger.

  373. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 1:59 am 373

    Manbearpig

What! Aren’t you afraid of him? He’s tough and mean! Really! Just ask him! He is really really mean! And tough!

Of course it only works when closes his eyes and clicks his heels together.

  374. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 2:04 am 374

Three people on NRO.com all say that there were problems with the teleprompter at a point in her speech. No way could I tell where.

Does anyone think Obama (Zeus) would have started stuttering?

Hey Biden. Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid!

  375. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 2:07 am 375

    Conan O’Lenoman

Biden is begging Obama to let him out of the debate. His plugs are due for their 50 day tuneup and he just can’t miss it. Unfortunately for him, they won’t find any volunteers to replace him for a suicide mission.

  376. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 2:16 am 376

Seeing the WW of the East, I remember another reason Sarah Palin rocks.

    No orange pants suits.

  377. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 2:23 am 377

Before the speech, Mathews and the panel were reading parts of the speech that were pre-released. He read the part where she attacks the media.

Mathews said’whose attacking her? What media outlets are doing it? Not us!’

String theory must be true because I must be waking up in a different universe each morning. But when do I get to live in the universe Olby and Mathews are smart? Or have a clue?

  378. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 2:28 am 378

Watching a repeat of Glenn Beck interviewing the author of a book on Sarah, he asks her if she is good at speeches.

He will not be asking that on tomorrows show.

  379. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:07 am 379

As if there was ever any doubt, even the talking heads on Morning Joe are ga ga over the speech. When Mike Barnicle and Mika can agree on that, I think it played well throughout the country.

Fox & Friends though are ripping her for a crappy performance. Just kidding! Obviously they are the most reasonable people on in the morning.

Now Barnicle is giving Rudy big kudos. I would say it was an ass kicking night.

  380. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:14 am 380

Scarborough rips into the media, in particular Joe Klein, for saying they are going to still go after her despite her ripping them. Scarborough says Klein doesn’t get it because people like Klein were following kos and the despicable Twig story.

    Good for Joe.

Now Mika says when Obama came on the scene there were rumors on the internet about him. Bad Mika! Bad Mika!

  381. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:19 am 381

Watching the clip of McCain on the stage with the family after the speech, I wonder if Piper will call him Uncle John and Aunt Cindy from now on?

  382. Jameson 04 Sep 2008 at 3:32 am 382

Yes, they do chant “O-ba-ma”… which just begs for an _Evita_ parody. “O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA!” with emphasis on the “ba”, like the bleating of sheep.

  383. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:35 am 383

The msm really takes to the DNC’s talking points about somebody else writing her speech. WTF! Even Barry has speechwriters.

    The sexism continues.

  384. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:40 am 384

Man, John Harwood of the NYT is sayiong she was too harsh, too partisan.

Gee John, I’m sure you said the same thing about Clinton and Biden last week. Go suck eggs.

  385. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:42 am 385

It’s times like this that I say thank you Mr Seward. Some folly!

  386. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 3:46 am 386

A commentator at Althouse said Sarah made Obama look like a high school drop out. HA!

  387. StevefromMKEon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:20 am 387

I agree with that point DH. Conservatives have been looking for the next Reagan since 1988, but have been looking at the wrong gender.

  388. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:27 am 388

Joe Biden on MSNBC kept laughing and saying she’s going to be tough and making it sound like he doesn’t know how to string two words together.

    If only!

  389. wfon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:29 am 389

Geez, you rethuglicans are stoopid. Todd had teh DUI in 1986. Game over, man. Game over.

    ;-)

  390. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:36 am 390

Yeah, if only Todd had written an autobiography and mentioned he did that. Don’t all people have two autobiographies by the time the are 45?

  391. amzarakon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:42 am 391

You guys have got to check this out. This is from Little Green Footballs. It’s from the DNC, apparently, and since I don’t watch broadcast news, I don’t know who the reporter is. However, if it’s true what he says, then it definitely is a moment for the history books. Hilarious!

Did we just find the secret to Obama’s success? Is that something only muslisms can do?

  393. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:01 am 393

I think when he was onstage with her family it was the highest I had ever seen McCain able to raise his arms. She might be the physical therapy he could ever get.

  394. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:25 am 394

John Dickerson on Slate had a great line.

“The biggest target of Palin’s succession of happy little kicks in the groin, of course, was Barack Obama.”

As a red blooded American male I can testify to the pain she inflicted.

  395. NeoConJedion 04 Sep 2008 at 5:30 am 395

I turned on PBS as 8:00 sharp last night at my newspaper, and made the lefties squirm for over three hours — it was getting hard for me to watch.

It was like watching someone in detox. I just kept telling them to “breathe … just take it … it’s good for you.”

It’s likely nothing got through, but at least I made a night miserable for those jackasses.

As for the speeches … it was a job well done. Our message was launched with clarity, humor and vigor. After the speeches, the I saw a clip of Obama at Kent State (talk about friendly crowds), and he sounded even more pointless than ever. He has been completely nuetralized. I don’t know how he’s gonna take to the trail and play the Dem class-warfare crap after the GOP has completely disarmed this stiff.

Now, off to the campaign trail to bring this home!

  396. NeoConJedion 04 Sep 2008 at 5:33 am 396

amzarak — I wasn’t expecting anything from that clip, then I almost spit coffee on my screen.

    Awesome!

  397. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:54 am 397

Looking at the picture on Drudge, I noticed McCain’s tie is the same color as HRC’s pants suit she wore in Denver. Is this a dog whistle to the Hillary voters? Did Rove figure out to mass hypnotive women?

  398. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:57 am 398

Geez I go to sleep last night after watching a little round table with Krauthammer and waited till Kondracke….jerkwad had to admit he was wrong. Heh.
So lets see Carolyn, I don’t read Andrew Sullivan. And yes I agree with Christopher Hitchens about him about not just wanting to F Zeus but have his babies.
Andrew Sullivan has been irrelevant for years.
We have two guys here under strange and rather ludicrous names one seems to be a leftist and the other seems to be a mouthy righty but I don’t know. Don’t care……..neither seemed too entertaining.
Sara kicked major arse. MAJOR ARSE! Just seeing Dingy Harry’s comments about Ms THANG being shrill was hilarious. Damn that heel to the crotch hurts eh Harry?
And as far as Hillary is concerned I believe she is getting her I TOLD YOU SO speech ready. I gotta gut feeling Hillary is doing something under the radar for McCain. Just my gut instinct. I really believe that the nasty crap Obama did to her and husband will never be forgiven or forgotten. Bill was being very cautionary to those assholes when he said you cannot discount the blue collar working people who voted for us. They have by picking this arrogant assclown. THey just assume those people will vote for Obama. One thing I learned in DC nothing is ever assumed. Ever.
To discount the middle class like Obama has is ridiculous. The one thing the Clinton’s could do was reach out like that. Obama can’t. Whoa unto him now.
Oh and the t-shirt slogan for teh day

    Zero v HERO

Print em up I want one….also an I am Sara Palin t-shirt would be cool to!

  400. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 6:10 am 400

    Stephanie

The critics in the media and the people from Obama’s campaign that didn’t like the speech all say the problem was she was too sarcastic and she could come off too cool.

It’s like these last five days of tabloid trash never existed and why is this lady so mad? They just don’t understand that people in rural Mo or OH were sitting there shaking their heads saying damn straight girl.

It is inconceivable that anyone in Obama’s campaign is not taking her very seriously. But they are not the brightest bulbs in the box and the Obama people think they are geniuses for beating HRC.

  401. trzupron 04 Sep 2008 at 6:48 am 401

I wake up. Check in. And I see that you all have gotten this thread to 400. Magnificent bastards you are. Magnificent.

On the way to work, I am going to treat myself to a cigar in honor of (in no particular order): the lovely Sarah Palin, Stephanie (who, it is clear, would light one up with me - just like my sis!), JEB (who works his ass off here), Blackiswhite (who’s “fart” flame is a flame for the ages), and all the rest of you magnificent bastards whom I would continue to comment on if it were not for the unfortunate fact that my kids and wife have developed this whole eating habit making this whole job thingy a neccessity .

    Cheers,

    Rich

  402. Stosh from da Stickson 04 Sep 2008 at 7:32 am 402

    Amzarak,

Thanks for the clip of Terry Moron in post 391.

But I always thought Andrew Sullivan was from Ireland, not Kansas.

  403. CatHouse Chaton 04 Sep 2008 at 7:39 am 403

Saracuda ROCKS THE HOUSE! (Updating with new links all day)…

I was afraid to get my hopes up last night - I mean, I adore Sarah Palin, I think she’s a breath of sorely-needed fresh air, and I think she’s a brilliant choice to the Republican nominee for Vice-President, but I’ve had high hopes dashed before….

  404. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 7:40 am 404

A word of Caution…Glenn you have no idea what your talking about. I for one am sick n tired of teh pessimist bs. TOTALLY! If you want to feel sorry for yourself and wring your hands your no use in an election. You think you know the voters and you don’t. Why on earth would we listen to someone whose echo chamber is Los Angelas. Does history not teach people anything?
What was Kerry’s convention bounce? Clintons’? Gores?
For Petes sake GLENN have some faith that people watched her speech. This is what we needed. Now either become part of the process and help or be quiet and vote. Thats all. We need 3am people here. We need people who will push through to the people who aren’t interested. Thats what an Campaign operative does.
