FINAL THOUGHT:  Obama bragged on how he gave up a job on Wall Street, McCain told us, “And they broke me.” Your call, America.

Here we go…

4:43 - Now playing in the convention hall: Heart’s “Barracuda.” — And Heart whines about copyright infringement in 4… 3… 2…

4:58 - I see video of McCain as a POW and all I think, ‘Yeah, but did he ever struggle to pay off his student loans?’

5:03 - O’Reilly plays clips of Sarah Palin — clips I’ve now seen a dozen times — and I swoon … swoon like a fat Southern lady in a hoop skirt with Sherman on the march.

5:10 - Via Drudge: Fox News beat the liberal nets last night:

FOXNEWS 9,038,000
NBC 7,720,000
CNN 6,114,000
ABC 5,050,000
CBS 4,630,000
MSNBC 3,277,000

5:13 - Glenn Reynolds wonders if we shouldn’t cut our losses and pull out of … Obama’s home town.

5:16 - Watching the liberal talking heads tonight is completely different from last night after The Speech when they were weakly whining about how “mean” Palin was. The Democrat women especially are much more gracious. Wise move. Whatever Palin’s kryptonite is, whining ain’t it.

5:19 - Ahh, canned chile. Doesn’t get any better than this. In about an hour there will be a fifteen minute gap in blogging, but still…

5:24 - Clip of Newt hammering MSNBC and like a fat Southern lady…

5:26 - BREAKING: New Ghostbusters movie. Thank Rocky, Rambo, and Indy…

5:28 - Poll Stunner via Hot Air: Survey USA: Independents who think Palin’s an asset to the campaign jump 13 points overnight.

5:37 - Barack is next on O’Reilly, an interview we all know will be O’Reilly talking about O’Reilly 80% of the time, and the other 20% Barack saying “uh,” and “let me be clear.”

5:44 - Obama: “Surge succeeded in ways no one imagined.” *ahem* McCain?

5:45 - Obama not admitting he was wrong on the surge is a mistake. McCain will use this interview in his speech tonight and Obama will regret trying to steal McCain’s thunder — all he did was hand him a nice piece of ammo. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

5:48 - Man, this chile’s awesome. .99 a can. Is this a great country, or what?

5:51 - That’s the whole interview? Why did Obama let O’Reilly bait him? “Get bin Laden? I was a community organizer, dammit!”

5:55 - Cindy McCain speaks tonight.  I have to confess to being worried about her. She seemed rather cold. All the blonde hair and those sharp features. But I’ve come to like her over the last few days. I especially enjoyed watching her watch Sarah Palin last night. No inter-gender envy, just Cindy enjoying the hell out of watching another strong woman become a superstar in front of her eyes. That said something about her. On her ticket — helping her husband, or no, Hillary would’ve hated that.

5:59 - Switched over to CNN. They’re upset over the convention’s use of 9/11 images.

6:00 - Lindsey Graham takes the stage: “Ladies and gentlemen, this speech is for the troops. … 15 of the 18 political benchmarks have been met.”

6:04 “Thank God, for Joe Lieberman.” Hear! Hear!

palin-wave.jpg
*tingle*

6:07 - “He doesn’t get it.” Sweet.

6:08 - “We should all be grateful Brack Obama was unable to defeat the surge.” Great line.

6:10 - I see Sarah Palin … I hear The Mighty Jon Voight’s voice … and I think, ‘This must be what Heaven is like.’

6:13 - MSNBC plays the Palin bio. CNN plays the Palin video. Fox doesn’t. WTF?

6:17 - P.O.W.? Whatever. Did he ever struggle to pay off his student loans?

6:21 - Watching two old pros Lindsay Graham and Tom Ridge deliver their awkward speeches only reinforces what an amazing achievement Sarah Palin pulled off last night.

6:30 - Gary Sinise narrates the Cindy McCain video.

6:35 - Great video, but I have one question: Did Cindy MnCain ever struggle to pay off her student loans? Huh? Huh?

palin-wave.jpg
*tingle*tingle*

6:43 - John McCain may honor his forefathers, but Barack has two daddies!

6:49 - Michael Reagan:

I’ve been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we’d never see his like again because he was one of a kind.

I was wrong!

Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he’s a she.

6:49 - Adopting those girls from Bangledesh. Amazing humanity.

experience_sm.jpg
*tingle*tingle*tingle*

6:56 - No podium. John McCain’s going to have a conversation, not give a speech like, you know, The One.

6:59 - WHAT THE HELL!! They’re bringing out columns! *kidding*

7:04 - Robert Davi narrates the McCain video. What an honor.

7:17 - Great video and entrance, but I wish they would change the green screen behind him. I know it’s grass from that photo, but still… Someone’s going to put CGI bugs behind him.

8:11 - Speech was a little flat but smartly aimed at America, not the hall. Some very moving moments that will play well on tv tomorrow.

8:18 - Loved the line about education being the next civil right. No kidding. One of the reasons I’m a Republican is over the issue of school choice.

8:20 - Sarah Palin will allow McCain to go after the independents without losing the base. Without Palin this speech would’ve further eroded the base. It was kind of brilliant.

8:22 - Loved McCain’s shots at both parties and the spending and corruption. We had that coming.

8:27 - On CNN they’re talking to a guy wearing a badge mocking The One. It reads: Community Organizer. Hit other badge reads: Bitter Redneck. His wife’s reads: Read My Lipstick.

8:30 - Line of the night … Reaganesque: “I was my own man, now I’m my country’s.”

8:33 - Charles Krauthammer just said what I did about Palin giving McCain cover to shake his finger at the party and go after the independents. Smart man, that Krauthammer.

8:40 - “And they broke me.” Compared to: “I gave up that job on Wall Street.”

Hey DH check your email. You may pass out. I am still going WTF?
Gonna watch O’Reilly. Am all ready…GO MAC!

Tough call for me - the Redskins are playing. Looks like my remote’s gonna work overtime tonight.

  4. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:31 pm 4

Should be over by 10. Which could land a bunch of football fans in Mac’s lap. COOL!

  5. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:42 pm 5

I hope a lot of Democrats lost money on whether SP was going to be dropped from the ticket. Gary Wills should get fired for the dumbest column of the year (and there have been so many columnists that seem they want to win).

  6. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:43 pm 6

    I am here!! :D

  7. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:46 pm 7

I am really looking forward to O’Reilly’s interview with Obama. I know not all of it will be shown tonight. I believe the whole thing will be shown over the course of three nights next week. The man won’t say anything that’ll swing me (not when I’ve scene the love of my life - I mean this in a non-stalkerish way of course) but I am interested to see how he does in a real interview.

  8. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:48 pm 8

By the way, love the picture for the the post.

  9. a. acaciaon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:48 pm 9

Johnny Ed, think about how UNLIKELY that would be. And the endless media punishment for the McCain camp had such a scenario played out. Not that our guys are strangers to media punishment, but you get my drift.

Has that ever happened, in the history of politics? A Veep dropping out after mere days???

  10. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:50 pm 10

Senator Eggleton…in 1972. He was picked to run with McGovern. He dropped out like 2 days later. Strange story.

  11. a. acaciaon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:52 pm 11

Wow. I’ll have to look that up.

  12. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:55 pm 12

No it’s never happened but I know some of the blogs like Talk Left had threads for people to predict when she would step aside. Libs are so open to the idea of women running for a national ticket. Ha!

The problem for those blogs is that SP will be around like a stick in their eye for a long time.

  13. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 4:59 pm 13

Who’s watching what channel? I tend to leave Fox News on so I do get two hours of commentators. If anyone of interest speaks can you do me a favor and let me know so I can switch to another channel? Thanks. :)

If Sarah Palin can convince the old geezer to drop his plans for an economy killing carbon cap and trade I will lover her forever…..

    [edit] 1972 presidential campaign

[edit] Selection as vice presidential candidate
In 1972, Richard Nixon appeared unbeatable. When Senator George McGovern won the Democratic nomination for President, virtually all of the high-profile Democrats, including Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey, Edmund Muskie[2] and Birch Bayh turned down offers to run on the ticket.

Having been declined by the “name” Senators, McGovern turned to lesser-known candidates, and Eagleton, who had opposed the Vietnam War, was selected on July 14 with only a minimal background check. Eagleton made no mention of his earlier hospitalizations. Newspapers soon revealed them. McGovern and Eagleton initially joked about the case with Eagleton saying he would undergo a psychiatric examination if other candidates (e.g., Nixon) would do the same. But the charges kept coming.

    [edit] Replacement on the ticket
McGovern said he would back Eagleton “1000%”, but on August 1, Eagleton withdrew at McGovern’s request and, after a new search by McGovern, was replaced by Kennedy in-law Sargent Shriver.

A Time magazine poll taken at the time found that 77 percent of the respondents said “Eagleton’s medical record would not affect their vote.” Nonetheless, the press made frequent references to his ’shock therapy’, and McGovern feared that this would detract from his campaign platform.[3]

McGovern’s handling of the controversy was an opening for the Republican campaign to raise serious questions about his judgment. In the general election, the Democratic ticket won only Massachusetts and the District of Columbia

Eagleton was replaced after the convention. I live in MO so was very aware of his situation. But Wills wanted her to step down before the convention was over so McCain wouldn’t drag the mistake out.

Thanks for posting that Steph. :)

I wonder what two dems O’Reilly will have on and what they’ll say about everything. I … wonder … what … they … will … say?

  20. wanketteon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:10 pm 20

Gotta address one of the most eye-rolling jabs against Palin: Her ‘do. It’s no beehive (if you care about such things)…but she’s getting bagged for it anyway. Seems to me she’s doing what works for her, adding a bit of a modern twist, which makes her style Hepburnesque (referring to both Kate AND Audrey…same ‘dos for the last several years of both their lives, and they always would up on the “Best-Dressed”!).

They’ve tweaked her color a bit, but have you noticed so far — no big-ass convention makeover like got slapped onto Michelle (who’s also attractive), and I get the feeling that, should the White House loom, we won’t see her re-inventing her style because of focus groups, a la Hillary. I’ve loved all of her suits — very elegant, very classy, *feminine*. Looks like she could get out of those quickly, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

  21. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:16 pm 21

    wankette

No matter what, when the Deomcrats look at SP they see Liza Doolittle flower girl.

When Republicans look at her we see Eliza Doolittle at the Embassy Ball.

  22. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:18 pm 22

Interesting that O’Reilly has two women dems on. And they’re saying good things about Palin outside of views on positions which I would expect.

Actually it was a good segment.

  23. Ginaon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:19 pm 23

Harry, thank you for the incredibly disturbing mental image of you in a hoop skirt.

    hahahahahaha

    Great reference!!

  25. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:21 pm 25

Hey its who she is. Thats not a bee hive. God what morons. Its a chignon. I wear my hair like that sometimes. She looks fine. They honestly think voters care if she wears Chanel? Well if Vogue does a story and a pictorial she will be. And they will, they did one of Cindy McCain and one on John’s Mom. Before the election is over Vogue will come calling.

  26. wanketteon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:22 pm 26

As usual, JEBaby, spot-on analogy. P.S., loved your Wizard of Oz reference to last night’s troll….

Jonah Goldberg just posted a link at NRO of the “choreography” of McCain’s speech tonight…hee hee…it’s Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp in “Tombstone”…”You tell ‘em I’M COMIN’…and hell’s comin’ with me!!”

    Oooh! tingle up my leg.

  27. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:22 pm 27

You know if they do that lone guy out there and he pulls it off…its gonna go down in history! I swear. Just be yourself John.

  30. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:24 pm 30

Like I said they did pictorials for both McCain ladys. And if I remember Jenna and Barbara Bush and Laura were all in the magazine.

  31. Ginaon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:25 pm 31

Isn’t Debbie Schlussel supposed to be a conservative favorite or something? She has this really vicious column (found it via Hot Air) about how horrible it is for a man (Todd Palin) to be a stay-at-home dad. Wow. Anyone else see that?

For the record, I have ALWAYS heard conservatives say that stay-at-home dads were a good thing, until this.

What’s the difference between a “community organizer” and a Chihuahua? A Chihuahua has a real job.

    Rim-shot!

  33. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:27 pm 33

Debbie S has some hard core views about people (look at how she feels about Hannity) so I am never surprised at what she says. May not always agree but at least she is not shy about stating her positions.

  34. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:29 pm 34

Hell my dog has organized more communitys….ask the geckos he chases and organizes they’ll tell ya! Squirrels to. Those squirrels need organizing and this Golden Retriever of mine is just the one to do it.

I know some of us here liked SP before McCain picked her but always considered her a long shot.

But did anyone think she would be as spectacular as this? I was hoping for a 9 but she’s turned the dial to 11.

You know they vetted her 6 weeks ago. The time line is interesting. They are trying to say the vetting happened like last week. Nope. Here is my theory: Depending on who Zeus chose for his running mate was how Mac played it. If Zeus chose Hillary Mac would have chose someone else. But Zeus chose the boring white guy……..Mac pulled his ace. Sara. She knew for a while.

  47. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:39 pm 47

Yep Dr. Phill remined Dave what teenagers are like. I had also heard a rumor that Bristol and her guy were already considering marriage anyway. Ok so she misses partying in College…doesn’t mean she can’t go to college.

What’s it say when the Republican VP draws as big an audience as the Democrat’s P?

And now Obama is retelling the lie Saddam wasn’t in bed with AL Queda…I hate him.

  53. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:45 pm 53

What’s funny to me is seeing Obama in this setting there is nothing presidential about him.

  54. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:46 pm 54

He has no idea what the hell he is talking about.
YES BARACK YOU ASS THEY ARE! General Petreaus said today that they were preparing to hand Baghdad over to the Iraqis. Barack YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

  58. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:48 pm 58

Nuts!! I wanted to see more of the interview. I’m looking forward to the rest of it. Not because I think Obama is doing well but because I can see him buckling under a real interview.

  59. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:49 pm 59

Obama sounds like he has no clue about Pakistan. More pressure on the Pakistani government, why didn’t Bush think of that. Duh!

    Moron.

  60. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:50 pm 60

Its funny, he sat there, angry, hunched over, lying through his teeth, argumentative, unable to put together a coherant thought. He came across as tired, pissed off and phoney. Total phoney.

  67. Stephanieon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:55 pm 67

Yes it is a brand of Chili. They make a lot of things and even Vienna sausages. Hey I woulda made chili……….that stuff bleah! We had ground turkey breast tacos…YUMMY!

  68. Mr24pon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:55 pm 68

DH - that was not the whole interview. The whole interview was around 30 or 40 minutes. It’ll be shown in full in three parts Monday through Wednesday next week.

  69. Ginaon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:55 pm 69

O’Reilly did better than I expected, but WHY does he have to bellow? Smirk, bellow, smirk, bellow. Argh.

At the convention they just showed a video walk-down-memory lane of islamic jihad against America. Starting with the Iran hostage crisis all the way to 9/11.

Yep, about time someone reminded the sleepwalkers that we live in a dangerous world. Betcha tomorrow the ostrich media goes bonkers with the “politics of fear” meme. God forbid we bring up Bin Laden or Iran. Cuz you know it’s all about the economy, right? Jihad, what’s that?

Hey my Redskins are still in the game!

  74. wanketteon 04 Sep 2008 at 5:58 pm 74

I called that one. I guess that means I won a can of chili.

Here’s Matthew Modine’s rebuttal of John McCain:

“I mean, he got shot down three times! That’s not success!”…Modine thinks that McCain’s rejection of the release offer is yet another example of McCain’s shortcomings. “And he wasn’t even a good prisoner of war,” said Modine. “He should have left as soon as he could. That’s what you’re supposed to do as a prisoner of war: Leave when you can. It defeats the enemy. It makes them look bad and it weakens them.”

Sounds like a story from The Onion, don’t it?

just released by Reuters - Firebrand filmmaker Michael Moore will release his latest documentary exclusively on the Internet for free on September 23, eschewing a traditional theatrical rollout, he said on Thursday.

“Slacker Uprising” documents Moore’s 62-city tour of key swing states during the 2004 U.S. presidential election, when he tried to convince young non-voters to give voting a shot.

“Slacker Uprising,” budgeted modestly at over $2 million, was funded largely out of Moore’s own pocket, a spokesman said. ster “Fahrenheit 9/11.” A low-cost DVD will be released on October 7.

“But hopefully when we finally lay our head on that pillow and exhale and let go of this life we can say ‘I’ve lived a good life, I’ve been a good person,’ ” Modine said. “And I believe that when Ted Kennedy does finally exhale he will do it with joy and the knowledge that he’s lived a good life and was a very good senator for Massachusetts.”

Has anyone thought about using “I’m a Believer” as the theme song for the Republicans this year? You know:

    I thought love was
    Only true in fairy tales
    Meant for someone else
    But not for me
Love was out to get to me
    That’s the way it seems
    Disappointment haunted
    All my dreams

And then I saw her face
    Now I’m a believer
    Not a trace
    Of doubt in my mind
    I’m in love
    I’m a believer
    I couldn’t leave her
    If I tried

    I thought love was
More or less a given thing
The more I gave the less
    I got, oh yeah
    What’s the use in trying
    All you get is pain
    When I wanted sunshine
    I got rain

And then I saw her face
    Now I’m a believer
    Not a trace
    Of doubt in my mind
    I’m in love
    I’m a believer
    I couldn’t leave her
    If I tried

Sen. Biden’s Daughter Arrested in Altercation

    August 04, 2002 in print edition A-15

The daughter of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer outside a Chicago bar.

Ashley Blazer Biden, 21, of Wilmington, Del., was with a group of people on a North Side street where several bars are located when someone else threw a bottle at an officer, police said.

When police tried to arrest another person, Biden blocked the officer’s path and made intimidating statements, officer JoAnn Taylor said.

Biden was later released and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.

Sen. Biden’s spokeswoman, Margaret Aitken, declined to comment, calling it a private, family matter.

Well, glad to know Obama is not Muslim:

Student Obama’s Ties to Bigtime Saudi Adviser [Candace de Russy]

When 25-year-old Barack Obama applied to Harvard Law School, he sought a letter of recommendation from Percy Sutton, the former borough president of Manhattan. The person who approached Sutton on Obama’s behalf, reports Kenneth Timmerman, was Dr. Khalid al-Mansour, an orthodox Muslim, a black nationalist, an international deal-maker, an educator, and an outspoken enemy of Israel.

Moreover, al-Mansour was been a key adviser to a Saudi billionaire who had mentored the founding members of the Black Panthers. Timmerman says that Obama met al-Mansour while he was a student at Columbia University in the 1980s. According to Sutton, al-Mansour raised money for Obama to go to law school.

“I am not surprised to learn about this,” said Niger Innis, spokesman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). “It is clear that Barack Obama’s ties to the left are familial, generational, and have lasted for several years.”

Apparently there’s more to Obama’s rapport with the Muslim world than he has so far acknowledged in his campaign.

Overall not a bad speech … a little too much “reach across the isle” stuff from McCain but that’s just who he is (and why so many in the GOP were going to have a difficult time voting for him).

My little fantasy is that one of the protesters would have yelled something to the effect of “end the war!” and he would have responded “I have every intention of ending this war, but with the honor of victory.” or something like that.

I think its rather telling that there were no Republican party crashers protesting at Denver … its because frankly we’re better people than they are.

  276. soulpileon 04 Sep 2008 at 8:33 pm 276

A truly solid speech! The end had me putting my hand on my heart with pride. McCain hit everything I’ve wanted to hear from a politician during my short life - end corruption, let the people choose their children’s education, bolster small businesses, allow us to get healthcare without bureaucrats standing in our way, and support the people, our troops, and America. He means it, too.

“And we will know their names!” Damn straight!

  277. Johnny Ed's Babyon 04 Sep 2008 at 8:34 pm 277

Oh - I forgot - I loved the reaching across the aisle! It’s time to be a united America and have a president who leads the country, not a party! If only the media would let him once he’s elected, as they have shown willingness to block our current president from creating a true unity.

And that Code Pink protester… boy was I glad to see that pink shirt. I was sure she was trying to strip to bare flesh! Eugh!

  279. Sharon Fergusonon 04 Sep 2008 at 8:42 pm 279

First I will say this: John McCain, thank you for serving our country. Thank you for your heroism and bravery and I am glad that there were and ARE men like you and your comrades. I want to make it CLEAR that I am as deeply appreciative that as so many other Americans are.

But it sours when I think of what you did as a Congress critter. Three things: Campaign Finance Reform, Illegal Amnesty and the EnviroLIE that is the Global Warming Sh**e. I cannot get enthusiastic about your being my President when I know that you havent seen the error of your ways in those three things. My one hope is that Palin will help you towards the light and maybe we wont have to fight you and Congress so hard when those things get shoved down our throats. God bless you for your service, but your actions as a congresscritter…*shakes head*

and one more thing…and I fully realize I am going to be invoking the wrath of a good many conservatives on here, including the host, DH, but I name it as another factor why I am very ambivalent about casting my vote for John McCain: there is a question as to whether or not their adoption of the girl from the orphanage was legal or not. As someone who has been doing research into the history of adoption in this country and how the baby industry handles the legalities, this paints a VERY nasty pall upon someone I would otherwise find acceptable to honor. I am QUESTIONING, not accusing - please understand that. But as someone who is adopted herself, there are serious implications involved that affect those who find themselves adopted as well, and I really really worry that conservatives are so caught up in their fight against the anti-life/culture of death worshippers among the feminazi left, that they arent seeing how damaging the industry of adoption is to human beings. Unfortunately, the fact that the McCains adopted someone out of an orphanage does not make them “brave”. May I ask why you use that particular word, DH? Brave as in “this child was a threat and McCain stood up to her as well and brought her home to America despite the danger?”

  280. Plissken79on 04 Sep 2008 at 8:43 pm 280

Solid speech by McCain, good job reaching out to independents and touching on a number of key issues that were not mentioned in Palin’s speech. The race is really on now, look for the polls to even up soon.

Also, if you want to see how effective Palin’s “community organizer” crack was, look at the reactions of Joe Klein, among others. They are acting like a group of spoiled children who have been spent to time out

I apologize in advance for the length of this. And, for a change, I will not make another vain attempt to be the biggest wise-ass on the block. But, I was moved tonight.

I was prepared to be disappointed. I was sure I would be. I was another “hold my nose and vote” McCain supporter who found the “maverick” (or, as one of the signs said: ‘mavrick’) persona tiresome. And, through the first half of his speech, I thought ’same old, same olllllld’.

    And I was wrong.

It is remarkable how trial and tribulation can shape a man - how the ultimate test can shape the ultimate in character and redemption. The passion with which he told of his stay in the Hanoi Hilton, and how that experience shaped him, left me sure that I now know the man. It left me feeling - quite frankly - ashamed about my faulty judgments. Here is a man with whom I might disagree on this issue or that, but HERE IS A MAN. A man of conviction. A man of courage. A man of passion. A man of honor.

He will have my vote, with pride. More importantly, he will have my eternal gratitude - though that is but a small repayment. And he will have this, not because he was shot down, not because he was imprisoned, tortured, humiliated, broken, emaciated and all the rest of it. He will have my gratitude because this remarkable man had the courage to walk away from that experience determined to make the world better, willing to forgive his tormentors, and more certain than ever that peace, liberty and freedom are worth the sacrifice. And because, he knows - as only those who have been there know - that you do everything you are humanly able to do in order to look out for those who have chewed on the same dirt as you.

His opponent, I am certain, understands none of these concepts. These ideas would mean nothing to him. His supporters, I am sure, will react to this speech by continuing to belittle McCain for “exploiting his imprisonment”.

Well, screw you, you sorry sum-a-bitches. And God Bless you John McCain.

    And

    Thank you.

  285. Sharon Fergusonon 04 Sep 2008 at 8:59 pm 285

Gina - well am still in the middle of researching that - as I pointed out, I have a QUESTION about how legal it was…and adoptions have been going on for a LONG time and the practices not as well regulated then as they are now. In essence, I have a lot of doubts about a lot of international adoptions, then and now. But that would take up more time and space on here. I was pointing out the reasons why I am not as enthused about McCain as I am about Palin…I am making my vote this year for the VP. I am still not happy about having to consider McCain especially after his past actions in Congress…the adoption part of it is just one more straw.

As I said, I QUESTION the legality, and it is something I am going to be looking into between now and November, if for no other reason than as a means to figure out how I can appeal to him and his administration for help on issues important to adoptees. Thats all…

Look, I’m not trying to be overly harsh with you, but that is sheer rumormongering. It does no good and much harm. I suggest, with all due respect, that you find a better use for your time and energy. If you want to raise awareness about adoption, I’m all for it; adoption is very important to me too. Focus on that, not gossip and slander.

An Open Letter to John McCain – Re: Your speech…

Last night, for the first time in almost a year, I was excited about your campaign. Your running mate did an outstanding job introducing herself to the public, showing what the future of Republican politics could be. That single speech did more for y…

Woke up this morning and found, while making my coffee, that I was fitting “Sarah Palin” to the old Davey Crockett theme song:

    Born in Alaska in ‘63
killed her a b’ar when she was only 3
    Sar-ah, Sarah Palin
    Queen of the GOP

Gotta go work - I will leave this to others to finish or politely sidle away from.

No Kidding. Good question Gina. Sharon I was up on the Hill during McCain Feingold. My former boss offered three different resolutions to make it actually a reform bill and he couldn’t get them added to Shays-Mehan. Mac drove him crazy but I want to say this, when faced with Barack Obama and his hate America its all about MMEEEE crap and remembering this man John S. McCain stood up for what HE thought was right and has always been for COUNTRY FIRST the choice is easy. Sure I wanted Romney and before him Fred however like I said before I remembered why I supported John McCain in the first place….he isn’t just a Republican, he is a Patriot. Thats what we want in the White House. A man above the politics as usual.

McCain-Feingold has always been the biggest stumbling block for my support of McCain.

I contend that politicians do the wrong thing for one of two reasons; malicious evil or well intentioned naivete.

I believe McCain drafted McCain-Feingold out of the second one. Even though the result of M/F is evil, it is an abrogation of the core purpose of the 1st Amendment (political speech) I don’t believe McCain intended it that way.

It doesn’t make the law right, or make his role in its passage completely forgiven, but it does mean that even though he pulled that boner, he’s still a decent and trustworthy man.

I believe his misguided and ignorant acceptance of the Anthropomorphic Global Warming hoax is another example. I do believe we can turn him around on it.

Just keep in mind that everything we conservatives don’t like about McCain exists in an exponentially greater degree in Obama.

As for the adoption issue, I don’t care. They saved the life of some poor orphan from third world squalor. If all the i’s weren’t dotted or t’s crossed or bureaucrats appeased I don’t care, and I fail to see how its a big issue unless you’re just looking for something to be upset about.

I’m a little worried about Gary Sinise. He’s really come out of the closet as a Republican. I wonder if and how Hollywood will punish him?

Sharon please let it go. That sort of bullsh*t is fit for Daily Kos not for us. Aren’t we better than that? Sharon I don’t know what to say. Your being hateful. Hateful towards a woman like Cindy McCain who has done things Hillary Clinton could only dream of. You look at her like a Barbie Doll fine…cool but this is a woman who has seen stuff that would boggle your mind and make you shrivel. She and her husband adopted a beautiful little girl. All you find is misery and lies. Creating a scandle that never occured. WTF! WHY? Like I said your fit for Daily Kos if your creating this fantasy. Now let it go. Leave that beautiful little girl who was blest to have been discovered by two people who could give her a life that in no way would she have had otherwise. You have issues. You need to deal with them. Don’t project them on Cindy, John and their youngest girl. Thats just rotten.

    CR,

Gary Sinise is bullet proof. He always is working and will continue to work. They can only hurt him if he stops making making money for the studios. He has his own show CSI now and he is working in many Republican functions all over the country and especially here in California. He is the spokesperson for the fund that is raisng money for the Disabled Veterans for life Memorial Fund. Gary has his own charity for the Children of Iraq. He has been to Iraq with his band to play for our brave troops. Gary, never hides the fact he is a conservative and helps with many Military and Republicans events. I don’t think the left can do anything to him at this stage of his career.
