Obama’s Bounce Vanishes Overnight
Posted by Dirty Harry on Friday, September 5th, 2008
Obama’s five point lead? Gone:
Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows the beginning of John McCain’s convention bounce and the race is essentially back where it was before Barack Obama’s bounce. Obama now attracts 46% of the vote while McCain earns 45%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 48%, McCain 46%.
This is a three day tracking poll, which means none of McCain’s speech is reflected in these numbers and only one day of Ronald Reag– er, Sarah Palin’s.
Also, after three days of punishing media coverage, Sarah Palin’s favorability rating is higher than McCain’s and Obama’s:
A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% …
Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.
Thank you liberal elitists! Can we debate experience a little more — huh, please, huh , please, huh please?
And just yesterday another gift: Liberal hit men at the AP are looking to distort Sarah Palin’s religious beliefs. Oh, can we please, please, please please go back to talking candidates and their — chickenssssssss have come home to roost — religious beliefs…?

wanketteon 05 Sep 2008 at 9:04 am 2I’ve never heard so many people use the “shouldn’t work because she’s a MOTHER” argument since the 70s. The greatest joy? They’re…all…Democrats.
Dear Palin children: Apparently, the libs care more about you than your own parents. Maybe you could hit ‘em up for more allowance…a car…an EZ-Bake Oven….

Hey, all you DHers — where can I get me one of those? link if you got ‘em! Thanks!
Glennon 05 Sep 2008 at 9:34 am 5I’m happy that Mac is polling better, but I still don’t feel good about Nov 4.
All those people cheering John and Sarah on TV? They would have voted for McCain anyhow. They would have voted for McCain if he had picked ME as VP.
And a slightly greater number of people are going to vote for Obama, no matter what. Obama could have chosen Bill O’Reilly as his running mate and those people would still vote for Obama.
I’m worried about the 8 to 12 percent of the voters who really don’t give a hoot about politics. These are the ones who were watching “Bones” or “America’s Next New Model” or a college basketball game on TV while Palin was making her speech.
I fear that most of these people are going to vote for Obama, and the two main reasons they will give are so lame that we can scarcely believe them: “The country is headed in the wrong direction, so I want to throw the bums out and give the other team a shot,” and, “McCain is too much like Bush.”
It’s sad, but true.
Too much time and effort and hoopla is being focused on the base. The base will vote for McCain. The problem is Joe and Jane Schmoe in Middleburg Ohio who say they have “no interest in politics” but insist on voting anyhow . . . and base their decision on sound bites overheard on ABC News.
Stickwick Staperson 05 Sep 2008 at 9:39 am 6Glenn,
Maybe I’m only speaking for myself — or maybe I’m speaking for a significant number of people — but I had no intention of voting in this election until McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. Now, not only am I going to vote, but I’m also going to contribute to the campaign.

Glennon 05 Sep 2008 at 9:55 am 8That’s good to hear, Stick - welcome to our side!
I just hope that your decision is common.
People like Jack and some others have said that they believe the polls are fixed, they are crooked, or somehow meaningless. I badly hope they are totally correct. I’m also hoping that Obama is “overpolling” - many people are telling pollsters that they will vote for him, but once the curtain closes in the voting booth, they will vote for Mac . . . and then come out and tell all their young friends they voted for Obama. Because it’s cool.
In 2004, George Bush got just over 30-percent of the vote in SAN FRANCISCO county. That says a lot. Imagine going through that area with a clipboard in September 2004 and trying to find one person who would ADMIT to supporting George Bush. I lived in the Bay area at that time, and I could not find one other person who would OPENLY state that he or she was going to vote for Bush. Yet, Bush got almost one vote in three in that area.
We can only hope that the same phenomenon is happening with the Little Messiah.
Hey, maybe that’s what he means by HOPE . . . !

In case I gave the wrong impression, I’ve been a conservative my entire adult life. Voted for W twice. But I’ve been very troubled with the leftward drift of the Republican Party, and what seemed to be the growing disconnect between the pols and the base. Prior to all this recent excitement, the upcoming election looked like little more than a choice between a moderate Democrat and a socialist Democrat. Hence, my disinterest. But I’m going on faith here, and hoping that McCain’s choice for VP represents his willingness to serve the grassroots. He’s won me over, but I’m still cautious.
Michaelon 05 Sep 2008 at 10:10 am 10Hi there, new DHer. Found it through John C. Wright’s archives. Anyway, I’d just thought I’d comment here.
I make no prognostications about Nov. 4th, I have no idea who will win. I can tell you, however, that I was seriously considering sitting this election out as well. As a pro-life Catholic, I didn’t really believe that any candidate really understood my values. But McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin has changed all that. Were it not for that fact that I have the most amazing girlfriend in the world, I’d be desperately in love with Sarah Palin. Pro-life, self-made mother of five with a son serving in Iraq? Pregnant daughter who’s keeping the baby and marrying the father? This is a perfect pick. How many families will see themselves in the Palins? Imperfect, but trying.
And John McCain, everyone’s saying it was a mediocre speech, which may very well be true. It was certainly mediocre in delivery, but we don’t elect orators, or at least shouldn’t. What the speech did was remind everyone of who John McCain is. Again, imperfect, but sincerely convicted with a love of his country. His speech reminded me how much I love America, and I love it a lot. I think it was a great re-introduction to the man the country fell in love with back in 2000. With a little luck, the Straight Talk Express is back.
Like I said, I make no predictions about the election results, but I can tell you this much, the culture is changing. The media has been eposed for the liberal shills they are. The “Silent Majority” are beginning to speak again. Whether 2008 is going to down as a 1980 Reagen Revolution (which would fit nicely with how Europe is going) or a Goldwater ‘64, I can tell you, something is happening. This is the start of something big. It’s just a matter of how big a start it is.
Stephanieon 05 Sep 2008 at 10:21 am 11Whose saying the speech was mediocre? Mort Kondracke? Sorry but he is a beltway shill. Hey people don’t talk in high flying rhetorical crap in Bum F Wisconsin. We sound like John McCain and Sara Palin. We don’t like being patronized or pandered to or condescended to. Thats why the speech worked for me. It wasn’t performance art. It was a man being who he is. Thats why the speech resonated. Considering that Rush said taht Mac had more viewers last night than Zeus it says a lot. People aren’t impressed with glitz and show because NONE OF US LIVE THAT WAY! We want heart and sincerity. We got that with Mac. Like always.
Jack Marinoon 05 Sep 2008 at 8:16 pm 12Glenn, ABC, NBC, CNN they all have polls and they are the ones that are most quoted and we know that 99% of the people that work for these networks that own and run the polls are all voting of Obama. Look at the source of the polls and who is ‘paying’ for these polls as if they are truly objective. The game is fixed as it has been since the 60s. Before that the networks had some standards, now we have no standards. Even Zogby was great and fair in the Clinton years but they sold out too. The only one that is privately owned is this new one Rasmussen. How long will they be objective and give it a fair an balance, who knows. I go with the mood of the people, the blogs, the internet news reports, drudge, talk radio from guys like Medved, Miller, Hannity, Rush, Hewitt, these guys have their hand on the pulse of the country, unlike the left, they just throw out there wishful thinking.
Polls really mean nothing, on the last election day when Kerry was in the lead with the polls and exit polls and by closing time on the east coast, Bush had won. Liberals will lose this election big time.
I never like McCain, he reach over too many times and liberals will always stab you in the back. Bush made the same mistake with Kennedy and Ted shoved it up his ass. The only way to deal with the left is to beat them down into the ground like dogs. They will respect this, they would show us no mercy or quarter when they ran all three branches of government. They never did in the past and republicans became like a battered wife. When Reagan, fought back they couldn’t handle it. These liberals HATE us, they HATE Palin, just look at the backlash of McCain’s pick. The media picked McCain to knock off Rommey who could have beaten Hillary. This is the only reason McCain won. We didn’t vote for McCain, most of us voted for Rommey or Fred. Rommey’s problem is that he is too nice a guy to get in the gutter with these leftist pigs. Look what happen to Rommey. The media put McCain where he is, thinking Hillary would beat him. Then the powers of the Democratic machine, hates the Clintons and do now want them near the White House again. They got Fat Ted to flip and support Obama, only because he won South Carolina and beat Hillary. Then the anal racist media when with Obama and made him the Messiah and it was working for a while. Then McCain the political animal that he is, told the media he was going to pick Lieberman, and a few others to keep them focus on these pro choice guys, meanwhile the conservative base was leaving McCain, thanks to Rush and Ann Coulter. But McCain was only diverting attention so he could talk to Palin and present her like he did to America. She is Ronald Reagan in female form and she is 44. She has now turned this entire election upside down and she has blown the main fuse in the democratic party. She has destroyed Obama chances to be the first black in the white house and she has destroyed Hillary’s chances in 2012. I hope they protect Palin BIG TIME. She is our only hope, she is our Obi Wan Kenobi. This mother of 5 will wake up the conservative America to fight that onslaught of this evil leftist tyranny we have lived under since the 70s.
Sometimes we can’t look at polls, or trends or history, sometimes we just have to take a chance and go for broke. Like that story I told once of the Viking King who was outnumbered 5 to 1 and he burned his ships. Its victory or death.
Today the left brought out there big guns at Palin, tomorrow it will be worse until Nov 4. Then when they win and we win back the congress too. The liberals will go totally insane. The the real war will start.
