CNN Ayers Investigation: Obama Lied In Debate
Posted by Dirty Harry on Monday, October 6th, 2008
Youtube quote: CNN investigative reporter: “But the relationship between Obama and Ayers went much deeper, ran much longer, and was much more political than Obama said.”
On Anderson’s Cooper 360 they did a major investigative look at the Ayers/Obama connection. They even interviewed Stanley Kurtz.
Bottom line: Just a guy in my neighborhood? Served on one board together?
CNN Says bulls**t!
They worked closely with each other and worked together on TWO boards — both Annenberg and the Woods Foundation. They also talked about Ayers little tea party to launch Obama and found Obama hadn’t been entirely honest about “just stopping by…” It was an event they planned and hosted TOGETHER.

Sarah Palin needs to come out tomorrow and ride this just like she did the New York Times piece: “It appears as though we’ve learned once again that Barack Obama wasn’t exactly telling the truth about his association with the domestic terrorist William Ayers. As a matter of fact it was in a debate during the primary in which he lied. We know this because CNN reports….”
It’s the lies that will sink in.
THE LIES.
I couldn’t believe CNN did this. After it was over, The Hot Little Number I Call Mrs. Harry and I stared at each other, jaws open, like we were watching Bigfoot pedal by on a unicycle.
And Anderson Cooper? Let me tell you, he was not happy.
Even if people don’t care about the Ayers connection, they will care that in a nationally televised debate Barack Obama lied to George Stephanopolous about this.
Lied.

SteveMon 06 Oct 2008 at 9:39 pm 12I choose to remain pessimistic (with plenty of history to back me up).
This is the left’s way of putting an end to the matter. A carefully structured softball will be lobbed up during the debate for Obama to hit out of the park with a pre-scripted (by no fewer than six Hollywood screenwriters) answer. In it, he will mention Bush, Keating, Halliburton, and the Alaska Independence Party. Immediately following the debate, Soledad O’Bullsh!t will lament that “it’s the end of the road for John McCain” because Obama just turned water into wine and recession into Socialist Prosperity. Shortly after that, a dozen polls will show Obama up 15 points.

RufusTon 06 Oct 2008 at 9:49 pm 16Kids,
I know actual, College educated folks who gloss over Obama’s pattern of bizarre social contacts with a dismissive wave of the hand and will counter with a BDS or PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) comment. There are a lot of moral relativists out there who take Obama’s accounts on face value. Common sense will tell most reasonable people that a true leader would never passively listen to 19 years of racial bile like Reverend Wright states. Most reasonable people would not partner with someone with Ayer’s past, but moral relativists can always find a way to justify their idealism.
David123456on 06 Oct 2008 at 9:49 pm 17This is the left’s way of putting an end to the matter.
Notice how Cooper boils it down to Obama “working with Bill Ayers to improve schools”, and basically asks what McCain is making a big fuss about.
amzarakon 06 Oct 2008 at 9:51 pm 18I’m inclined to agree with SteveM. I also believe CNN must think the economy is going to sink McCain and this issue won’t make much of a dent in the messiah’s poll numbers. That’s why McCain has to hammer home the point of Obama’s connections with Fannie/Freddie. There’s still a chance but McCain has to want it.
Dirty Harryon 06 Oct 2008 at 9:52 pm 19The way to further the story is to talk about the lies — Palin should use the CNN quote tomm on the stump.
North Dallas Thirtyon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:09 pm 20As I said over on Ace, we are witnessing the manifestation of the most powerful force in the universe: Hillary’s belief that she can take Palin in 2012.
Up ’til now, I think she was content to remain out of the fray as much as possible. But now she’s worried that Obambi might actually win, and her powers of minority exploitation are worthless against him.
Thus, she’s thinking, she torpedoes the Messiah, then waltzes in as the party savior in 2012, able to neutralize Palin’s gender advantage and then call upon the Clinton “first black President” tripe to mobilize the erstwhile Obama masses.
wanketteon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:22 pm 21Well, that was a jaw-dropper. I’m glad Mrs Harry was there to witness.
All I saw when I channel-surfed tonight was the CNN crawl linking Ayers to a *Republican* governor somewhere.
I actually laughed my butt off about that! It’s the “I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I?” school of the Obama campaign.
a. acaciaon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:24 pm 22I’m not at all concerned about the moral relativists who, by virtue of their common affliction, are pretty much in the Obama tank. The little messiah is, himself, a walking study in moral relativism, so it’s no surprise that he leads the parade.
No, I worry more about the scores of independents and swing-voters who are just now starting to pay attention. These people need to get the facts, unfiltered, and unvarnished.
I think it’s great that CNN did this. I’m watching Hannity’s America right now (I cut my cable two years ago), and there are some facts that are fresh, at least for me. Like the fact that L. Farrakhan lived down the street from Obama. “Obama, Ayers, and Farrakhan, sitting in a tree.” Quite a radical neighborhood. I wonder what a “house-warming” party is like on this street - slam poetry readings by Amiri Baraka with Sista Solja on drums.
As soon as someone uploads the CNN segments, I’m there.
Ronsonicon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:26 pm 23The summation was a serious soft-pedal “work together to improve education…”
Which raises the serious question of why the hell Obama is lying about this instead of bragging about it?
That’s the one to leave people going home with.
I’m guessing they go back a lot further than this. How else would Ayres know this red diaper baby of no accomplishment who wrote about how he always sought out radicals and marxists and such to associate himself with.
Boffoon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:33 pm 24Sarah Palin needs to come out tomorrow and ride this just like she did the New York Times piece: “It appears as though we’ve learned once again that Barack Obama wasn’t exactly telling the truth about his association with the domestic terrorist William Ayers. Then someone will accuse her of racism. It won’t matter that there’s nothing whatsoever that can be construed as racist in anything she says. The headlines will read “Palin defends herself from charges of racism,” and ignore the content.
I’m hoping the people will see through that. But I’m no longer confident they will.
Jack Marinoon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:40 pm 25a. acacia the mad dogs are on the defensive and they are going to blame McCain for the stock market nonsense when we all know the Dems have their fingerprints all over this mess. Obama himself has gotten kick backs from fannie and freddie. This is too big for the Dems to walk away untouched. The libs are after the swing voters, I feel there are more conservatives out there then they realize and they are getting pissed off and will come out in droves and no matter how many votes the Democrats throw away, vote the dead, illegals, the bums on the street, no matter what they say about Bush is the blame for all the ills of the earth for the past 500 years, none is this matters, this is food for the liberals because they are so desperate even when their boy is ahead in the polls as of tonight. In ten days things will change. We have less then 30 days to go and this is the beginning of this fight getting beyond nasty. McCain is still going to win, because Obama, the liberals and the Democratic party will strip themselves naked more and more and we will see the evil they want us to embrace. We will reject this chicago thug with connections to racist, terrorist, mob guys and even honest Democrats out there will vote for McCain. This is what I love about American politics I love the intense negative ads, this is what liberty is all about. Politics are about a bar room fight, the people who at this stage haven’t made up their mind are not important. There are more conservatives out there that are going to vote for McCain for the 8 years of pissing on Bush, the troops, Michael Moore, the radicals like Obama, the liberals are getting more and more brazen in reading the polls. They think they are going to win, McCain and Palin must keep up the pressure so something gives and the Dems lose it. McCain must go on the attack and go after Obama tomorrow night, he must fight for his right to be our President. He must show us the courage he had in the Hanoi Hilton and stand up to this leftist incompetent radical and all the democratic crooks for stealing all that money in the housing market.
People lost money on this and the market today took a dip and these congressman said this 700billion would fix this. This is what pelosi said. This is there undoing. The market fell because Obama said he was going to raise capital gain tax. People are taking out their money NOW and not waiting for this to happen. We are in the beginning stages of the Dems losing everything. Enjoy this show, this is the real ball game, the real world series. Remember 30 days ago Obama was lagging behind it will change again back and fourth until Nov 2 and then it will get intense until the polls close. The dems have picked the wrong horse in every election since 1968 but two, what makes anyone think that this has change?
McCain will get elected and Palin will change everything and MCCain will go along because he will take the credit and he will let her ideas work because they will work and everyone loves success. When has the democrats have had real success…… in 1962 when JFK pointed to the moon and we went there.
Jack Marinoon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:52 pm 26The sooner the libs use the dreaded word RACIST the sooner we will kill that word forever. Barney frank use it today in Boston saying it is racist to attack fannie and freddie. Can everyone see what is going on here????
Palin needs to confront this term and KILL IT forever. The CBC liberals are calling Pailn a pig, a porn star, this is desperation and it is going to get worse and PISS people off BIG TIME.
The last resort is Palin is a racist for attacking Obama’s terrorist connection, but Obama is so deep in Chicago corruption he can’t dig his way out. Once the Dems shoot their racist load its over for them. Americans are FED UP with these F**king assholes who have never been put down for their fascist tactics.
They have young black American kids saluting to Obama in camos, can anyone here understand if a republican was doing this? Or if McCain redesign the Presidential Seal? None of this stuff will take root, but the fact they are doing it, shows you their deep intent of destroying our country into some socialistic racial payback to the white boy and christians, God and freedom.
As Claudius the Great once said, “let all the poisons that lurk within the mud hatch out” Claudius the God’s problem was that he didn’t rule in a constitutional republic rule by common law of olde England.
I just love American politics.
Johnon 06 Oct 2008 at 10:52 pm 27While Palin can use this on the stump on Tuesday, that’s really a side issue with the debate between McCain and Obama on tap Tuesday night. Because of that, the ball is in Maverick’s court, and if he chooses not to make an issue of the Ayers connection when he’s face-to-face on stage with Obama under some idea that he needs to continue to remain above the fray, he pretty much forfeits any chance to really make this connection hit home.
If McCain won’t force the media to confront the issue Tuesday night, there’s no reason to believe they’re going to play up the charges after that, or focus on anything Palin’s saying about them more than Monday’s spin that just bringing the charges is racist (and if McCain is really, really, really lucky, Tom Brokaw or one of the descendants of Pony Tail Guy from the ‘92 Town Hall-style debate will bring up this charge Tuesday night without McCain even having to broach the subject himself, giving him the chance to both highlight the connection and refute the race accusation at the same time).

Fact Check: Is Obama ‘palling around with terrorists’?
The Statement: Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin said Saturday, October 4, that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is “someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”
Watch: Is Obama a terrorist’s pal?
Get the facts!
The Facts: In making the charge at a fund-raising event in Englewood, Colorado, and a rally in Carson, California, Palin was referring at least in part to William Ayers, a 1960s radical. In both appearances, Palin cited a front-page article in Saturday’s New York Times detailing the working relationship between Obama and Ayers.
In the 1960s, Ayers was a founding member of the radical Weather Underground group that carried out a string of bombings of federal buildings, including the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, in protest against the Vietnam War. The now-defunct group was labeled a “domestic terrorist group” by the FBI, and Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn — also a Weather Underground member — spent 10 years as fugitives in the 1970s. Federal charges against them were dropped due to FBI misconduct in gathering evidence against them, and they resurfaced in 1980. Both Ayers and Dohrn ultimately became university professors in Chicago, with Ayers, 63, now an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Obama’s Chicago home is in the same neighborhood where Ayers and Dohrn live. Beginning in 1995, Ayers and Obama worked with the non-profit Chicago Annenberg Challenge on a huge school improvement project. The Annenberg Challenge was for cities to compete for $50 million grants to improve public education. Ayers fought to bring the grant to Chicago, and Obama was recruited onto the board. Also from 1999 through 2001 both were board members on the Woods Fund, a charitable foundation that gave money to various causes, including the Trinity United Church that Obama attended and Northwestern University Law Schools’ Children and Family Justice Center, where Dohrn worked.
CNN’s review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved.
Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told CNN that after meeting Obama through the Annenberg project, Ayers hosted a campaign event for him that same year when then-Illinois state Sen. Alice Palmer, who planned to run for Congress, introduced the young community organizer as her chosen successor. LaBolt also said the two have not spoken by phone or exchanged e-mail messages since Obama came to the U.S. Senate in 2005 and last met more than a year ago when they encountered each other on the street in their Hyde Park neighborhood.
The extent of Obama’s relationship with Ayers came up during the Democratic presidential primaries earlier this year, and Obama explained it by saying, “This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood … the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago — when I was 8 years old — somehow reflects on me and my values doesn’t make much sense.”
The McCain campaign did not respond Saturday to a request for elaboration on Palin’s use of the plural “terrorists.”
Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now “palling around,” or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.

The McCain campaign has had to make an issue of Obama’s relations with Ayers because, absent that, the media weren’t going to touch it. And it’s not a matter of whether Obama might be making bombs in the basement of the White House, but first that in his rarefied community hobnobbing with unrepentent former terrorists doesn’t seem like a bad idea for a would-be politician (and here, too), second that he seems to share some of the fundamental educational philosophies of said radical and the Alinsky methods that he espouses, and third that he’s lied about the extent and nature of those relations with the active complicity of the media. Outstanding report by Drew Griffin (”former” CNN investigative reporter??) that exposed the depth of the connection between Obama and Ayers that essentially exposed Obama as a liar for trying to hide this connection.
As I watched the panel discussion with David Gergen, Cooper, Gloria Borger, and John Major, they totaly ignored the report and made no comments on it. I was wondering if they just watched the same report that I watched! I think this was a surprise and they were caught completely off guard.
Thank you Drew Griffin. Finally the Obama/Ayers connection gets reported in a “legitimate” MSM such as CNN since the “illigitamate” right wing sources such as Fox News, National Review, Weekly Standard, American Thinker, etc have no such credibility.

wayneon 07 Oct 2008 at 8:51 am 59did you nuts watch the same video that I did? I’m still struggling to see the “depth” of the relationship and how it equates to Obama being a terrorist cohort. Quit your whining of the “liberal gotcha media”

Dave G.on 07 Oct 2008 at 9:40 am 61Lied? Ommitted, yes. There was a charity BOARD, and an education project. He ommitted the education project in the debate.
There was also the suggestion in the CNN piece that Ayres picked Obama for the project, but the evidence is different.
What I suspect we’ll hear more about however, is the specific education projects which were funded, since Obama helped control that.
iowavetteon 07 Oct 2008 at 10:28 am 62Building on a prior comment, the reality is that absolutely no one watches Anderson Cooper. Hell, I didn’t know who he was until someone mentioned him on a conservative blog. So, the more blogs get the word out, the more pressure on the RNC, the more pressure on the ethically-impaired pinheads in the media. Do said pinheads actually think through the results of their efforts if successful? It is the slippery slope to socialism.
drewskion 07 Oct 2008 at 10:32 am 63Anderson!!!! WAKE UP!!! The Annenberg Foundation, Ayers and Nobama were not working together to improve schools!!! Griffin just effin’ said that!! Were they buying books? Installing new computers? Renovating labs? NO. They were radicalizing CHILDREN. Honestly… this man is about to be the leader of the free world… how is this possible…
Danilaon 07 Oct 2008 at 12:00 pm 64Dave G and Wayne, watch the video again. It was much more than “served on two boards together”.
I know this is significant because more trolls than usual are popping up in this thread.
JRon 07 Oct 2008 at 12:03 pm 65See what happens when a media outlet pulls in a majority of the audience in the VP debate? Yup…agenda driven tripe takes a back seat to sticking it to Fox News and the bottom line (which had hit bottom not too long ago). CNN has a dilemma…continue to push Obama favorably…or try and stay in existence. Unfortunately, that’s still a tough one for them decide. But, they’re leaning towards the latter.
Cheers
JR

Billon 10 Oct 2008 at 9:59 am 83It is worth noting that up until Barack Obama had his first book published he had no authorship credentials of any kind even at Harvard Law School.
