Two National Polls Show Obama Lead Fading
Posted by Dirty Harry on Monday, October 6th, 2008

These polls were both taken after the full effect of the VP debate but before Governor Palin and Senator McCain opened their newest offensive on the little messiah — an offensive we know will work because the liberal media’s saying it won’t with small beads of sweat forming over their upper lips.
Reuters/C-Span/Zogby: 48 Obama - 45 McCain
CBS News: 48 Obama - 45 McCain LV
I didn’t report the one poll because I was sure it was an outlier, but two might be something more.
A candidate can peak too soon. What happens when you look like a winner is that the people focus on you. Obama’s hugging the ball and spouting platitudes — you know, what he’s always done. Maybe people are starting to notice. Maybe both polls are crap.
We’ll know in a few days.

whiskeyon 06 Oct 2008 at 11:25 pm 1The election IS WINNABLE. But it requires fighting. I’m not a Vikings fan, but you know what? At the end of the day, Childress’s guys wanted that game more than the Saints. Sure, bad calls, lucky bounces, etc.
They wanted it more. McCain’s biggest problem is his military background. Where people have to get along. Time for that LATER.
Now it’s fight. Fight on Wright. Fight on Farrakhan. Fight on Ayers. And most of all, fight on Freddie/Fannie and Congress and Dems.
whiskeyon 06 Oct 2008 at 11:25 pm 2PS — as bad as he was, I could have lived with Kerry. Obama is a freaking Chavez Disaster.
Kensingtonon 06 Oct 2008 at 11:25 pm 3Look, all I know is thank God for Governor Palin. She has been blessing in this election, and any hope we still have is thanks to her. I truly believe that.

braininahaton 07 Oct 2008 at 12:47 am 5It’s pretty bad when someone makes Kerry seem, well, tolerable.
McCain’s time is now. Bring the kitchen sink, McCain. And by the “kitchen sink” I mean a clear explanation of why your economic plan is superior to Obama’s inevitable high tax plan, a detailed account of what really got us into this economic mess (name names and make people famous), and persistent questioning of Obama’s history (or, non-history) and unsavory relationships (which bespeaks of a radical philosophy and dubious moral character).
Obama is highly inexperienced and foolishly dangerous. Believe me, I’m being kind is saying “foolishly” — because there’s good evidence suggesting that he isn’t foolishly dangerous but calculatingly dangerous.
Get the job done, McCain!
JMon 07 Oct 2008 at 1:15 am 6It just goes to show if these polls are correct, that, the American voter is not concerned about the economy, war and bringing our kids hope that are getting killed and maimed in Iraq, our 401ks and the status quo. It is sad that America is stooping to this level under the guise of terrorism, patriotism and what’s best for the country. How about that Sarah? McCain Pal-in comparison.
Brianon 07 Oct 2008 at 4:05 am 7Make that 3 national polls showing Obama ahead by only 3.
I never heard of them, but RealClearPolitics.com lists Democracy Corps as having Obama ahead 49-46, with a sample of 1000 likely voters polled 10/1 - 10/5.
I think the RCP folks know what they’re doing, so the poll’s inclusion indicates that it’s a legit operation.
I won’t link directly, because it’s a PDF file, but here’s the RCP list of latest polls:

wfon 07 Oct 2008 at 4:25 am 8I am more concerned that McCain MUST make sense when he is talking about the economy. He should go after Obama, but people need to be reassured about the economy. Obama´s policies may be deluded or dishonest but he has been talking about them.
Now, in the words of Rich Lowry over at NRO “Most voters probably didn’t even know that McCain had a (creative) health-care plan until Obama began lambasting it.”
Read the column here. He is right.
Do you realize how deadly it is to let only the competition talk about your product?
I know I´m repeating myself but it is driving me crazy. I made comments six months ago where I warned exactly about the danger of running only on the war. I said he must offer voters something on domestic issues. Talking about reform is a start but reform in itself has no benefit. Every advertising guy can tell you that. You have to tell people why it will be good for them and why they should trust you.
That is why it is so important to hit Democrats over Fannie, Freddie and the whiff of corruption there. Ayers does nothing to shake voter confidence in Barack Obama´s ability to fix the economy. These issues do. That´s why they can´t be off the table.

Poll: Troops Backing McCain Overwhelmingly…
Written By: Brendan McGarry…
SARASOTA, FL. (NS/AirForceTimes) -
Sen. John McCain enjoys overwhelming support from the military?s
professional core, though race appears to be a decisive factor for
career-oriented black service members, a Military Times survey of
nearly 4,300 readers indicates. McCain handily defeated Sen. Barack
Obama 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-
duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to
Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times…as a
snapshot of careerists, the results suggest Democrats have gained
little ground in their attempts to appeal to a traditionally
Republican voting bloc in campaign messages and legislative
initiatives, such as the recent expansion of GI Bill benefits, experts
said…Officers and enlisted troops, active-duty members and
reservists, those who have served in combat and those who haven?t, all
backed McCain by large margins, to about the same extent they
supported President Bush four years ago…McCain?s majority “wanes
among women and disappears altogether among black respondents”….
the fact he wanes among women and has 0 support among blacks doesn’t surprise me. Bush didn’t have as much support amongst military women either.
So if the assholes dont count military ballots we would know why.

PESSIMISM, I mean:
Losing some of your pessimism are you?
Kiton 07 Oct 2008 at 6:24 am 13The Obama camp has been leveling these criticisms of Sarah Palin:
(1) She was not properly vetted (i.e. Background not checked thoroughly)
(2) Inexperienced
(3) Promoted to quickly
(4) Associated with an extremist church.
Each of these cricitisms work far better on Sen. Obama.
(1) The Media (and the Dems) never did a good background check on him, they just carried him to the Convention.
(2) He has spent most of his Senate term campaigning for the White House
(3) See No. 1
(4) “GOD DAMN AMERICA!”
promon 07 Oct 2008 at 7:09 am 14Kit,
That’s what I have been saying for a long time. There’s a method to their madness, a precisely calculated method. Since Sarah Palin came along, Obama camp is throwing at her precisely those criticisms that they anticipated were going to be leveled at him. They figured that would probably lessen the bite when Obama was attacked. They didn’t probably anticipate the might of Sarah Palin. Neither did we.
jbwbubbaon 07 Oct 2008 at 7:25 am 15Actually yesterday we also had a poll from Jim Carville (yes him) which showed a three point race 49-46. Kinda of weird when you look to Jim Carville for good news

Full Metal Deer Platoonon 07 Oct 2008 at 7:41 am 18The negative campaign ads are working - every opinion piece in the morning papers are saying how awful they are & how awful it is to bring up Ayers. If they weren’t worried, they wouldn’t have paid the ads any mind.
Stephanieon 07 Oct 2008 at 7:43 am 19Watch the lefties come here enraged…and then tweak them with their Horst Wessel Lied and their Sieg Heils….it only pisses them off more HEH!
Plissken79on 07 Oct 2008 at 7:55 am 20hmm, perhaps the media-driven “consensus” that Biden defeated Palin in the debate was a bit overblown.
McCain still has his work cut out for him, but a strong debate performance tonight can certainly help him out. Let’s hope he continues the theme of his attempts to regulate Fannie and Freddie being blocked by the Democrats
BoffoTMCon 07 Oct 2008 at 9:59 am 21That Palin Rosie the Riveter poster is a bit creepy. Nowhere near as creepy as children chanting Obama’s name, but I still think it would be better not to use it.
