Excrutiating … Patronizing … Smug … Way Long
Posted by Dirty Harry on Thursday, October 30th, 2008
Your Honor, I would like to submit this into evidence and rest my case that Everything Produced By Hollywood Is Too Long. Thank you.
ADDED: The Hot Little Number I Call Mrs. Harry said something remarkably insightful last night (she does this a lot). She wondered why Joe the Plumber’s treated with scorn by the elites, but not actors. She wondered why a sitting governor of Alaska is treated like an idiot by the elites, but, you know, actors are treated like fonts of wisdom.
This isn’t to say that actors automatically qualify as political morons — though most in this video do and I’m Matt Damon is about an IQ point away from needing a helmet — but many of the same media elites who’ve ripped Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber at every turn sure do treat Streisand and Madonna thoughtfully when it comes to “the issues.”
Values are more important to me than that thar’ book learnin’. Than nuance. People lead with their values, which is why I’d follow Sarah Palin into hell and not spit on Paul Haggis were I come across him ablaze.
Narcissism is not value.

John Miltonon 30 Oct 2008 at 11:46 am 2This does suck,
but my god Borat is funny.
Wayfareron 30 Oct 2008 at 11:48 am 3I’m thinking most of them will be very disappointed when the returns actually come in.
And I will be laughing at them.
Ohio Wolverine momon 30 Oct 2008 at 11:54 am 4Glad I did not pay to Indy IV
Shawn Streeton 30 Oct 2008 at 11:55 am 5Let me get this straight, I’m suppose to take political advice from an actress who is best known for a scene in which she puts “man juice” in her hair?
Ohio Wolverine momon 30 Oct 2008 at 11:56 am 6Had to type fast to get the audio to STOP!
God,between this POS and the Funny or Die garbage, I don’t think I am ever going spend a dime to see a movie in the theatre again. The library lets me borrow them for free, and I have DH to tell me if I am missing anything.
Haven’t missed much lately. Going to watch Iron Man again, now, to sear away the memory of this crap.
JimmyCon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:09 pm 7Dear God, how many of these narcissistic videos are they going to put out? And what do they think our response is? “Well, it’s got alot of famous people in front of a white background, so it must be right.”
Mr24pon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:16 pm 8This wasn’t as creepy as the one where they all sing for Obama. This was just booooooooooooring.
I guess this means Spielberg has lost it. He can’t even make a commercial interesting.
I think with the modern attention span most kids won’t make it through the first minute so all they’ll get out of it is the don’t vote message.
godzirraon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:26 pm 9The best part of that entire piece of schlock is that FINALLY, after EIGHT YEARS, they admit (via the hairless-chested Mr. Ford) that Bush won in 2000 (by 537 votes!)
Ohio Wolverine momon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:31 pm 10Mr24p—-thanks for the insight—you are right, the kids will turn it off.
And godzirra—thanks for the report—turned it off after “He’s not my President” Roberts appeared….
Smith & Pinkett lost me when they bent over backwards defending slick willie…now, I get their flicks at the library.
Danon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:37 pm 11Ten bucks says that more than half of the actors in this production won’t vote.
Ohio Wolverine momon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:40 pm 12twenty bucks says they can’t even read the ballot….
Rodriguezon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:43 pm 13Nice that they gave props to Palin in the beginning but it lost me after the first minute.
Agreed with Harry that everything produced by Hollywood these days is too long. Back in the day, the studios turned out all kinds of fare that barely clocked over an hour. Lean, tight stories that moved along at a good clip, then got out at the first possible minute, leaving you wanting more. Would love a return to those days. And not just regarding length.
Bennett Marcoon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:43 pm 14I got 30 that says they try to send their personal assistants to vote for them.
firefirefireon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:48 pm 15WoW !
I sure hope McCain wins this election by 100’s of thousands of votes. I’m so sick of hearing from these hollywood elites
(legends in their own minds all) that it.was.just that.close.
Should 0bama win I hope it’s by millions of votes so that the left will then OWN his Presidency and all the mistakes He will make and all the disasters he mishandles
I promise to give president 0bama ever courtesy extended by the left to President Bush, and I promise to extend to our new first lady the same respect that the left extended to Sarah Palin.
Thank God for TCM.
hailstateon 30 Oct 2008 at 12:59 pm 16I would love to see a PSA with dozens of regular people telling Hollywood to shut up and start making better movies.

I love youtube!!
publius804on 30 Oct 2008 at 1:24 pm 20This is actually a parody of the first video. But watch it!
Mulholland Kevinon 30 Oct 2008 at 1:46 pm 21Even worse, why are rock musicians sought out for their political and philosophical opinions? Could it be a phenomenon which I’ll call The John Lennon Effect, which is what happens when a moderately smart guy is asked so many questions that he starts to think he has answers. Can you blame him?
Same thing happens with movie directors. I suppose you have to have some intelligence to ride herd on everything that goes into making a film, but, jeez, to see an interview with Scorcese or with Spielberg you’d think they were in the same profession as Alfred North Whitehead, not Mack Sennett.
Maryon 30 Oct 2008 at 1:51 pm 22Ha, publius, that was a great video. A nice palate cleanser.
As far as celebrities go, I’m so glad most of my personal favorites aren’t famous or buzzworthy enough that I have to hear their opinions. May they never become pretentious!
Emilyon 30 Oct 2008 at 1:56 pm 23So Barack has all these losers; we have JOE PERRY!! WHOOOOOO!!!!
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/30/aerosmiths-joe-perry-comes-out-of-the-closet/
Emilyon 30 Oct 2008 at 1:58 pm 24Btw, I actually want Hollywood to keep these videos coming…I have severe sleep depravation. Ladies and gentlemen…we now have a cure. Rejoice.
EPon 30 Oct 2008 at 2:00 pm 25Aw, hell yeah — Joe Perry!!! Thanks for sharing, Emily.
Troyon 30 Oct 2008 at 2:04 pm 26The Emperor Justinian’s wife Theodora was an “actress” — code in the Byzantine world for “prostitute.” He put lipstick on that pig and she became an “Empress”.
Mavison 30 Oct 2008 at 2:09 pm 27Why are there so many British people who pop up in these videos? I love kidney pie as much as the next gal, but please, we have enough arrogant American actors, we don’t need foreign ones telling us what to do also.
And, I want to see the ad that says, “if you are dumb and don’t keep up on the issues and where the candidates stand on them, then DON’T VOTE.” Is there anything wrong with that?
JohnLockeon 30 Oct 2008 at 2:38 pm 28I have to admit, I’d probably find this very entertaining if I were a leftist. But because I know who most of the people in that video want me to vote for, I can’t stand it.
Love the news about Joe Perry, Emily. Just a couple weeks ago I found out about Brian Johnson, and now this comes through the wire. Awesome.
Stosh from da Stickson 30 Oct 2008 at 2:39 pm 29Gosh, the Ratzenberger ad would’ve been so much more effective if they’d tossed in a bit of gratuitous vulgarity like these guys. But I guess they’re just not cool enough.
MovieBobon 30 Oct 2008 at 3:02 pm 30“Values are more important to me than that thar’ book learnin’. Than nuance. People lead with their values”
The values are emminently important in very specific areas: Choosing a companion, a philosophical debate, Church, that sort of thing. When choosing an employee (or, in this case, “public servant,”) however; please forgive me if I wish to see the prospect’s report card before their merit badges.
McCain and Obama are both, by all reasonable accounts, decent guys… here’s the thing: I don’t care. They’re both INTELLIGENT and capable of doing the job (one moreso than the other on most scales) so if they haven’t helped their share of old ladies cross the street in their lifetimes it doesn’t really make much difference to me. I don’t care that McCain differs from my “values” when it comes to Abortion, I care about whether or not he’s likely to force those values upon me by altering the law (he’s unlikely to, given his record with the Bush judges, though at this point he’s just unlikely period…) in other words, I care about his opinions and policy, not “values.”
Sarah Palin has all the ‘values’ qualifications to make her a perfectly excellent Den Mother… not so much a president and barely a Vice President. Whichever McCain aide dropped the ball on getting her to understand that she was ONLY invited along to draw Hillary voters and moot Obama’s novelty should share a big hunk of the blame for the campaign’s impending defeat.
Ohio Wolverine momon 30 Oct 2008 at 3:06 pm 31Sammy Hagar is a Republican, too…he’s why my 36 year old brother is voting McCain (seriously, it is part of it)
mjkon 30 Oct 2008 at 3:45 pm 32“I would love to see a PSA with dozens of regular people telling Hollywood to shut up and start making better movies.”
I’d participate in that PSA as long as we also advise that they make better music, better TV shows, and, well, better celebs.
Jack Marinoon 30 Oct 2008 at 6:26 pm 33McCain/Palin are going to BLOW the entire leftist socialistic extortion racket fascist out of the water on TUES. This is going to be a massive rejection of the entire Democratic party and their sick cancerous ideology they have been trying to shove down this country’s throat. That infomercial was the most boring bunch of nonsense and that only appeals to the brain-dead liberals, this is the BEST this incompetent loser can do? After hearing him and seeing him last night, he makes George Bush look like Errol Flynn. My God, is this the best the loser baby boomer generation has to offer. From JFK to this clown?????
McCain is closing fast in the polls, that means he is really ahead of Obama because the Obama press corp media is hiding the facts, just like the LA Obama times won’t play that tape. If that was McCain at some dinner and someone made anti-anything remarks, there would be a feature film made by now.
It is plain as the ear sticking out on Obama’s head….. its over this will be a McCain/Palin ROUT!!!!
Get out there and vote and tell this extortionist to give away all the money he has stolen in Chicago and keep his damn hands out of out pockets and wallets.
Carolynon 30 Oct 2008 at 6:33 pm 34Arrogant bastards.
Explaining ’sarcasm’ is something you do only to stupid people.
(Hey, Spielberg - you want ’stupid’ explained to YOU? Okay, here it is. Make a video humiliating your entire audience. And then - to humiliate them even more - make it boring.)
Splashon 30 Oct 2008 at 6:49 pm 35Borat can vote?? Let me guess… Signed by ACORN?
Splashon 30 Oct 2008 at 7:03 pm 36Then again, Carolyn, this isn’t meant for normal voters. His actual target audience is beyond humiliation. A big chunk of the vote Obama counts on is statistically more likely to stay home sucking a bong than expend energy skateboarding all the way down the block to vote. Hence the sense of urgency.
YatYason 30 Oct 2008 at 7:27 pm 37publius804:
The parody was hilarious and fast paced….unlike Spielberg’s dull video which dragged like the new “Indiana Jones” film. However, who ever the rust-picker in the video was, I hope his Chain of Command spots him wearing the cammies. That is definitely a violation of the UCMJ.
Jack Marinoon 30 Oct 2008 at 8:00 pm 38it is amazing how so many people thought Stevie boy was a talented filmmaker. He just had a lot of bucko bucks, great hype and special FX behind him, take all that away and this is what you really get… an over paid film student
Tumbleweedson 31 Oct 2008 at 8:09 pm 39Not quite on point.
Narcissism is not a virtue.
