Magnolia Pictures’ Mark Cuban Under S.E.C. Investigation
Posted by Dirty Harry on Monday, November 17th, 2008

Left wing gajillionaire, the guy who gave Brian DePalma $5 million carte blanche to smear the troops, is under SEC investigation for insider trading.
Handcuffs. Orange jumpsuit. Frog march. No doubt, intellectually honest Lefties will cry for all three — you know, if there were any.

nightflyon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:00 am 1A much better basketball team owner and dot.com developer than a movie maker, apparently. And how does a guy with that many bajillions of dollars not hire good accountants? If there’s a place NOT to skimp, it’s in the bookkeeping, right?
billypaintbrushon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:08 am 2its this kind of arrogance, intent to defraud and sense of invincibility that led to the ‘29 crash.
get a rope!
Splashon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:10 am 3It wasn’t the bookkeeping, though. He’s being charged with insider trading. Premeditated lawbreaking for profit, baby! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!
Carolynon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:41 am 4Lord! Shades of Martha Stewart.
A billionaire endangers his freedom simply to save a few dollars in a stock transaction? Unbelievable.
Thomas Talionison 17 Nov 2008 at 9:43 am 5Mark Cuban is not Left wing. He is a huge Ayn Rand Objectivist.
He is staunchly opposed to war. Much like Ayn Rand. That’s what makes people say ‘Leftist.’
You can’t get much further to the Right of Ayn Rand.
Stephanieon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:45 am 6Poor guy….poor poor Mark Cuban…..should we all cry for him? I think NOT! Ha ha ha! Karmic Blow back for that craptacular piece of celluloid vomit The Valley of Wolves…..
This is Karmic Blowback….
Stephanieon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:46 am 7OK Tommy then why is his head so far up Obie butt he is looking through his TONSILS! The man SUPPORTED Obama. No Ayn Rand fan would have seen the drooling sheeple following the Big He and been a supporter. You know that. Gimme a break. Cuban is an anti american piece of filth and he is getting his own RENDITION! A proctology examine by the SEC…ROCK ON!
Charlie (Colorado)on 17 Nov 2008 at 9:53 am 8Sorry, guys, it’s a civil filing. All they are asking for is money. No frogs, no marching.
PerfectTommyon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:53 am 9Guess I need to repost here.
I looked up Cuban’s film resume at IMDB. Not only was he a producer for “Redacted”, but we also have him to thank for such gruesome entertainments as “Black Christmas”, “Turistas” and “Good Night and Good Luck”.
But the most interesting item is executive producer on “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room”. Looks like he really learned something from making that film.
joefrogon 17 Nov 2008 at 9:56 am 10Where is the guy from Happy Gilmore when you need him?
“Jackass!”
Don’t forget, he has that wonderful guy Josh Howard on his team, he of the National Anthem fame.
You want to diss the troops and by extension the US? Have fun now bud. The Empire does indeed strike back. And I am cheering.
NeoConJedion 17 Nov 2008 at 10:01 am 11I hope this piece of filth burns in hell.
Johnny Ed's Babyon 17 Nov 2008 at 10:02 am 12With the usual caveat that he is innocent until proven guilty, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
But I hate insider trading laws. I thought the Martha Stewart case was the biggest waste of government resources. Actually manipulating a market is one thing, but Cuban is not charged with that.
Rand may have been against war but who isn’t? No rational person wants to go to war and will do what they can to prevent it. Ever hear of peace through strength? Do you think anyone could be elected street sweeper if they said they would never go to war under any circumstances?
Anyone that thinks opposition to war is what defines Rand, they are delusional. If that were the case, 99% of the nation would be considered Randians and that only overstates it by about 98%.
Chris Bon 17 Nov 2008 at 10:04 am 13$750,000 - this idiot is going to spend millions to avoid going to jail now over a loss that would have only cost him $750,000. I am sure Cuban blows well over $750,000 on private jet travel every year.
The sad thing is that Cuban is most likely going to get off. The media has always loved Cuban and his attorneys are going work hard to get a favorable celebrity loving jury.
Melon 17 Nov 2008 at 11:53 am 14Mark Cuban was an Obama supporter? News to me. It’s my understanding that he gave to no campaign and never said. I think he’s innocent until proven guilty too. Mark Cuban has his foibles, but he’s done great things for Dallas (my city) and I’m willing to wait for the jury. Don’t forget he put out Faces of Iraq too.
PS: You might want to check the political money he has given. (Orrin Hatch? There’s a liberal!) Where to you get Left Wing???? He supports the Iraq War to this day and created a charity specifically for soldiers.
v.on 17 Nov 2008 at 12:34 pm 15In all sincerity I can give you 95% assurance that us intellectually-compromised lefties will not be supporting Cuban, any more than we supported the fine people of Enron etc.
PerfectTommyon 17 Nov 2008 at 12:54 pm 16On a related subject, Cuban at the Huff post advises Obama to hire more entrepeneurs:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mark-cuban/president-elect-obamas-fi_b_143645.html
Thomas Talionison 17 Nov 2008 at 1:08 pm 17Stephanie,
Cuban actually endorsed Ron Paul and Michael Bloomberg. But they weren’t running.
Obie came later. Perhaps if we put up a stronger candidate . . . but that’s a dead horse.
Lurkeron 17 Nov 2008 at 1:13 pm 18Another example of Mr. Cuban smearing the troops.
http://www.fallenpatriotfund.org/
“The Fallen Patriot Fund has approved grants in excess of $3,540,053 and has received donations from 48 states, Italy and three provinces in Canada. ”
“The Fallen Patriot Fund of The Mark Cuban Foundation was established to help families of U.S. military personnel who were killed or seriously injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Financial resources are vital to enhancing the sustainability of the family unit who has suffered a loss because their loved one sacrificed him/herself for freedom. Within that group, grant recipients will be selected in accordance with criteria established by The Mark Cuban Foundation. All proceeds will be disbursed.”
wfon 17 Nov 2008 at 2:49 pm 19If he is such a great guy, why would Cuban be involved in making Redacted, a disgusting, amateurish piece of propaganda? Goebbels couldn“t have done an uglier smear job on the American soldier and I say this in all seriousness. I have seen propaganda movies from Nazi Germany and the Stalin-era Soviet Union and they are not more over the top.
Thomas Talionison 17 Nov 2008 at 3:06 pm 20How are we defining Left and Right?
It should be collectivism vs. individualism.
War has nothing to do with it. If anything, historically, Leftists are responsible for the majority of wars.
I fear the terms have lost their true meaning over time. Much like the terms Capitalism and Fascism. I guess words mean what we want them to.
wfon 17 Nov 2008 at 3:29 pm 21Thomas,
that is a good point, but even if he is not a collectivist (or thinks he is not) I am missing the evidence that he is not a stupid bastard.
Dirty Harry's Momon 18 Nov 2008 at 4:35 am 22It’s another Martha Stewart. A true gazillionaire charged with trying to hang onto $750K, walking around money for him. And he can’t even dance.
misanthropicuson 18 Nov 2008 at 5:40 am 23Glad to hear this, and I hope Mark Cuban we’ll do some time in a government-funded institution - on the other hand…
Hey, Mark! What about this concept: you, in your designer orange jumpsuit, leaning on a mallet in a quary, interviewed by Michael Moore, and talking about the inhumanity of the American justice system, about Americans’ stupidity (since no one wants to see your idiotic pictures), about Mccarthy and the Bush year? Wow! It rocks! Man, this concept will get the state prisons crowd and their fellows from MoveOn.Org, HuffPo, Daily Kos and ACORN all in the seats! I can see the title, a crawl: “When the Revolutionary Returns - The Story Of Mark Cuban”
H. Wood Bigshoton 18 Nov 2008 at 6:57 am 24You would be hard pressed-hard pressed- to find a more worthless human being on the planet than Cuban.
nightflyon 18 Nov 2008 at 7:23 am 25HW - that’s a little strong. I’m sure Robert Mugabe and Kim Il Jong qualify easily. Hell, your garden-variety drug pusher or pedophile is probably a far worse human being than Mark Cuban. Same thing with the whole “hope he rots in hell” deal from whomever… Perhaps we ought to keep some proportion. Cuban bankrolled some bad movies; even if he was personally involved in scripting and editing (a stretch) it’s not the same as hijacking a nation and turning it into a squalid slum. He maybe got a tip and dumped some bad stock to duck a loss. I don’t know if anyone else would have done differently if they thought that they were about to drop significant coin on a bad business deal.
If he’s guilty let’s see him punished properly, but calling for his head (or his soul) is foolish, considering the real evil that’s out there in the world.
