Suggestion For Prop. 8 McCarthyites…

Posted by Dirty Harry on Monday, November 17th, 2008

If you want us to take your outrage at all seriously, and I mean AT ALL seriously, let me suggest that when you equate opposition to gay marriage as a form of bigotry you don’t forget to mention this guy’s opposition to gay marriage based on his own personal Christian beliefs.

Or is even a shred of intellectual credibility not a prerequisite for left-wing fascism?

When asked where they stand on gay marriage, anyone opposed should simply respond, “Right next to Barack Obama.”

I thought of the analogy to Miller’s play last week and almost mentioned it, but then I figured Arthur Miller would spin in his grave from the mere association.

Regarding intellectual credibility, I’m waiting for the outrage from the Code Pinkers, et al, now that Obama has said he is going to increase U.S. troops on the ground in Afghanistan by 50%.

Ahh - there’s the “it’s okay to lie because the ends will justify the means” rub.

Most leftists and liberals I know all think Obama and Biden aren’t being 100% truthful in their stance on same-sex marriage, because they all know they probably wouldn’t be elected if they came out in favor of it.

But those leftist and liberals who demand truth, transparency, and honesty are okay with that lie because they feel and/or know deep in their bones that Obama and Biden will do what’s necessary to allow same-sex marriage, be it through vetos, SCOTUS appointees, or some other method.

Whether those hoping Obama was lying on this issue will be justified or suffer a severe case of buyer’s remorse remains to be seen.

Totally off topic here, but if I put it in a lower post it may not get seen…and I have to share…

Okay, in case no one else has seen this (I think it came out in 2005 - I know, Im behind the times…)

If they want to be outraged about something, how about this? Just another victim of aq victimless crime: crossing the border illegally.

Experts help Highland students cope with teen’s death
    by Emily Gersema - Nov. 17, 2008 09:23 AM
    The Arizona Republic

“A team of counselors and social workers were directed to Gilbert’s Highland High Monday to help the 2,800 students there cope with the death of 16-year-old Kelly Tracy.

“Mesa police say Kelly and her brother Matthew Tracy were on their way to meet the Highland High School band for the Gilbert Days parade around 6:30 a.m. Saturday when they were struck nearly head-on by a driver near Sossaman and Guadalupe roads. Kelly died at a hospital later that morning. Her brother was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

“Police arrested Manuel Contreras-Galdean, 32, whom they say was driving impaired. He was charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault. Authorities also placed an immigration hold on him after it was determined that he is in the country illegally.”

My grandfather-in-law was Arthur Miller’s English professor at U of Michigan. My father-in-law met him. He was a very bright, talented man.

“When asked where they stand on gay marriage, anyone opposed should simply respond, “Right next to Barack Obama.””

So, then… you’re painfully-obviously lying about your position so that you can A.) get elected and B.) have a big showy “road to damascus” moment changing that position once it comes time to veto a constitutional ammendment or support a supreme court decision? ;)

As most know I disagree with nearly everyone here on this issue but that is a mighty, mighty powerful line.

The lack of outrage towards some, but not Obama is pretty damn stunning.

Code Pink will never care that we are at war after Jan 21. They cared because GW is a Republican pres. Back in the 90’s, wacko liberal actor Mike Farrell from MASH said that he wasn’t protesting Clinton going to Bosnia because it had already started. He has of course been protesting Iraq to this day. Typical liberal hypocrisy.

Sharon, thank you for taking us off topic and reminding me, at least, that smiles are much more important than angry scowls.

I’m linking that vid up on my corner of the blogosphere. It is brilliant … a bit geeky … but brilliant nonetheless.

DH is right about the intellectual credibility of the left. However, I think in this case they accept that Obama says what he needs to say and doesn´t mean a word. I certainly do not believe him and I do not see any evidence of his personal Christian beliefs informing any other part of his politics.

As nice as it would be to have a useful idiot on our side for a change, I won´t play this game. One side has anti-gay marriage lefties, the other rolls out anti-war ex-Generals, one side goes gaga over a conservative black, the other is giddy with joy because their communist of a candidate gets the endorsement of a billionaire entrepreneur. It goes on and on and proves very little. Makes you wonder if anybody knows why they stand where they stand.

Uhhh I do. I’m a moderate leftie, and no I don’t think Obama is actually against gay marriage, he’s saying he is because just look what it did to Kerry’s campaign.

  12. Tommy Von 17 Nov 2008 at 9:46 pm 12

I wonder just how many statements and policies that Obama has announced that the left think to themselves, “Yeah, I know he said that, but he’s lying. He thinks the same way I do about that.”

Everyone pretty much knows that he is, at the very least, a liar, after the whole Wright debacle, but no one really cares.

It’s very curious. There needs to be a is a study sometime about just how tolerant one is about their leaders lying and what they’re allowed to lie about. There is obvious zero tolerance from anyone of the opposing party, and clearly much more tolerance if he’s “your guy”.

Can I ask you something with out you flipping out and going on a rant?

  14. Stephanieon 18 Nov 2008 at 8:04 am 14

Heh. No such thing as a moderate leftie BAL. And no such thing as a “Bad Ass Liberal” Unless you are speaking of Thomas Jefferson and you dear boy would consider him nowdays a rightwing loon and he would consider you a tyrant. Business rulz government sucks. And there should be ZERO tolerance for class warfare in this country. Get it?

  15. The Bad ass liberalon 18 Nov 2008 at 9:34 am 15

Actually I consider Jefferson the founder of this nation and an excellent politician of his time. And he would respect my political opinions and support Barrack Obama thank you for playing for more information on Thomas Jefferson read.

    Jefferson’s letters Or 1776.

Your view of the left is very narrow minded I suggest you turn off Sean Hannity put down “godless” and read something about the actual position of the left, then read Karl Marx’s manifesto and compare and contrast I’ve done it so I am sure someone twice my age can pull it off.

  16. The Bad ass liberalon 18 Nov 2008 at 10:02 am 16

Tommy- No one cared about Bush’s drugs or his pardoning of a serial killer while gov or Texas. No one cared that he was kicked out of the National guard for selling drugs on base. And hey no one really cared that Palin couldn’t name all the countries in North America, or that Bush lied about the WMD’s. And the connection Saddam and Osama had, as of yet Obama’s ‘lies’ have led to the deaths of US citizens.

  17. Striker Zon 18 Nov 2008 at 10:26 am 17

Okay, can we please not play ‘what somebody dead for hundreds of years would have done’, please?

As a particularly respected historian once said, George Washington would not have been able to find Iraq on a map. The founding fathers did many great things, but are far removed from what’s going on these days, and I have no desire to reanimate their Essentiale Saltes, and give them a quick primer on the last eleven-score and twelve years before asking their advice on matters.

Though, mountains of respect to Bad-Ass Liberal for not automatically whipping out with the slave children narrative when Jefferson came up.

One of the reasons I am always thoroughly frustrated with the election process is the necessity to lie during the campaign, and the willingness everyone’s supporters have to it. McCain twisted himself into a pretzel, trying to shed the maverick image and be everything conservatives wanted him to be - and liberals called him on it, over and over again, and rightly so. Yet I’m sure not a single one of these liberals - at least, those whom I myself see on a regular basis - have a problem with any of the ‘exaggerations’ Obama needed to make to the people to get elected.

Which is why I wrote in ‘None of the Above’ on election day. And proudly.

  18. The Bad ass liberalon 18 Nov 2008 at 10:49 am 18

Lying and bullshitting is 75% of politics. Hell the stuff they bring up on the campaign trail is just to get votes most of the time they barley touch those issues.

  19. The Bad ass liberalon 18 Nov 2008 at 10:49 am 19

Oh yeah and sure, I kinda agree. Let’s leave poor jeffy where he is now.
