Kenn Christensonon 18 Nov 2008 at 5:15 pm 1Betcha Paramount’s happy about that.
But, seriously, guess others have caught on to the metrotwooneohing of the Star Trek I grew up with.
Capt. Nemoon 18 Nov 2008 at 5:27 pm 2Don\’t you mean:
Star Trek: Deep Space 90210
Danielon 18 Nov 2008 at 5:28 pm 3I guess that would be funny if I was ever a loser enough to watch any 90210 episodes.
Good thing we’re done with a silly distraction like the Presidential election. Now we can focus on the important stuff.
Carolynon 18 Nov 2008 at 5:58 pm 4This film is going to suck big time!
JohnJon 18 Nov 2008 at 6:10 pm 5I happened to be over here: http://www.marvel.com/news/movies.6086.Watch_Two_New_Wolverine_and_the_X-Men_Clips and I noticed that the description said, “First up, feast your eyes on a two minute trailer showing Marvel’s Merry Mutants as they throw down with Sentinels and evil mutants alike to protect the very same humans who fear and hate them!” and I thought, “Isn’t that a lot like being a conservative today?”
Kiton 18 Nov 2008 at 6:40 pm 6JohnJ,
that isn’t “like being a Conservative today” it “IS being a Conservative today.”
ArchiCrashon 18 Nov 2008 at 6:46 pm 7Wow. That looked incredibly goofy… I’m starting to really get into this whole hating-the-new-cast thing. Kirk looks like, well, nothing, really.
…Except for Scotty. For some reason, I actually think Pregg could make a decent Scotty. No idea why. Just do…
Kiton 18 Nov 2008 at 7:20 pm 8ArchiCrash,
Same here on Scotty. Only three bright spots in the cast:
Pegg, Nimoy, and Ryder.
Jack Marinoon 18 Nov 2008 at 7:41 pm 9How can this enterprise look more sleek then the one on TV, and the ones that were in the films where Kirk and company are older?
This enterprise should be even more primitive then the TV version because Kirk and Company were already an experience crew in the first season of TV.
This looks like the morphing of Star Trek and Star Wars. So the young Kirks nails the young Uhura years before the episode where they were force to kiss and Spock did that flamingo dance
Why don’t they just leave things alone and make up a whole new movie. Isn’t there anyone in Paramount that has an imagination to come up with something fresh and new.
Michaelon 18 Nov 2008 at 8:08 pm 10Wow… the only thing that would have made the funnier is if they had replaced “Uhura” with “Token Black Chick”, “Bones” with “Faramir”, “Sulu” with “Harold”, and “Scotty” with “Not David Tennant”.
soulpileon 18 Nov 2008 at 11:13 pm 11Hmm. The only thing I’m thinking is they still have those ungodly underwires in the future?
Otherwise, meh.
Tommy Von 18 Nov 2008 at 11:28 pm 12That is absolutely brilliant.
Ohio Wolverine Momon 19 Nov 2008 at 5:24 am 13FYI-John J. Miller just linked to DHP and this post on The Corner at National Review Online
Hucbaldon 19 Nov 2008 at 6:41 am 14Yeah, this is culturally lost on me too. I mean, I know what the point is SUPPOSED to be, but I’m fifty, so I’m proud to say I started intentionally not watching entire series on TV at 21 Jump Street. Never seen an episode of 90210, Bay Watch, &c… but I have seen every episode of every Trek series since the original. LOL!
ECMon 19 Nov 2008 at 8:29 am 15It’d be awesome if they make Sulu gay–that’d be so meta!
/Hollywood exec
WCon 19 Nov 2008 at 9:40 am 16They’ve got to be kidding! This has to be one of the stupidest concepts I’ve ever seen. If they’re going to be doing “Kiddie Star Trek” why don’t they just make it a Saturday morning cartoon show?
I swear, Hollywood must be absolutely bereft of any new or original ideas these days ….
Brian Greenon 19 Nov 2008 at 10:07 am 17haha, Syler
GMKon 19 Nov 2008 at 10:20 am 18Now THAT is some cutting film criticism.
pageivon 19 Nov 2008 at 1:20 pm 19Now I’d be willing to watch Star Trek: Saved by the Bell.
Antoinetteon 19 Nov 2008 at 2:12 pm 20When Kirk was at the academy weren’t Sulu and Uhura teenagers? And Spock was science officer of the Enterprise years before he met Kirk. How could they have met at the Academy?
R. Ford Mashburnon 19 Nov 2008 at 3:27 pm 21Seriously, if they were looking for a “younger generation” Star Trek, it should be more gritty, realistic, primitive, with less technology and more “militarism”. More “Das Boot” meets “Star Wars”.
Young bright officers dealing with the prime issues of their young lives and careers and less with “romantic adventures” and sports cars.
Starships that were barely held together, with primative drive systems and realistic settings.
