ANNOUNCEMENT: Dirty Harry Moves To ‘Big Hollywood’ Jan 6th — (New Posts Below)
Posted by Dirty Harry on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask all of you to move with me one last time.
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009, Dirty Harry’s Place will shutter closed as I assume the full-time duties of Editor-In-Chief at Big Hollywood, a group blog and brain child of Andrew Breitbart that will examine the effect of pop culture on our society and politics, and the effect of politics on our pop culture.
I’ll pass on more information as we move closer to launch but as you can imagine this is something I consider to be the opportunity of a lifetime, not only to work with Andrew and his team, but also to expand this important discussion and debate to all aspects of pop culture while taking it to a new level.
In the meantime, please sign up here for the latest updates and wish me all kinds of luck.

G-MANon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:12 am 2Sounds like a grand adventure.
Travison 02 Dec 2008 at 7:17 am 3Congratulations and good luck DH!
Tar Heel Momon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:22 am 4Talk about movin’ on up….Mazel Tov!
yuckabuckon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:28 am 5Wow, that sounds like a real job. Are you going to have to get up earlier in the morning and actually be dressed before noon?
This is the 5th blog I’ll be reading you on, but I want you to know that if you move from Big Hollywood to CNN or Time, then you can forget about me following you there.
Just so we understand each other.
Good luck and God bless you!
Steve W.on 02 Dec 2008 at 7:30 am 6Good luck!
Rather Readon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:31 am 7I’m signed up. This sounds great - for way too long conservatives have shunned the popular culture and look what we have. We need to engage it, shape it and generally wallow in it.
Traffic Cop Timmyon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:37 am 8Just got on the Big Hollywood wait list and I’m very excited for you Harry.
Just think, Brittney’s on top again (’cause we’re all very happy for her and gosh, you know, she deserves it after all) and now this!
So from President-Elect Bill Ayers’ Friend Who Still Opposes Gay Marriage, “Er, uh, well, understand this… hey, but I’m glad you’re fired up!”
David Marcoeon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:51 am 9Good luck, DH.
An aside, but does anyone else notice the conservative group blogs springing up? Ed Morrissey shuttered Captain’s Quarters to join Hot Air. Joe Carter left Evangelical Outpost a few months back to be editor of Culture11.com. Right Wing News turned into a group blog. Seems to me were seeing a long term trend toward this type of stuff.
Jack Marinoon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:52 am 10Harry, good luck with this move… Andrew is the biggest blogger on the internet for conservatives. Get out there and rock the liberal boat or rather sink it! I can only hope that this will help unknown conservative filmmakers promote their films so more people will be aware of who we are and what we do. I am looking forward to seeing the new layout and I hope BIG HOLLYWOOD is bigger then the HUFF! Good luck to you and Andrew.
Moseon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:53 am 11I’ve been reading your blog everyday since I discovered it a couple of months ago. Best of luck in the new venture, although I hope that you will be able to keep up your posting about the movies in addition to your editing duties.
Bobon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:55 am 12Man. Very exciting. You and Breitbart — a match made in heaven. Watch out Tinseltown!! Congratulations.
FreakyBoyon 02 Dec 2008 at 7:56 am 13DH:
Congrats, and good luck!
But be careful, though.
It’s dicey out there.
First, you’ll get awesome bags of swag from the studios, then invites to Spago for post-screening parties, then end up hanging at SkyBar with Clooney and DiCaprio with the Laker girls till 4AM.
Next thing you know, you’re seated next to Sean Penn at the Chateaux Marmont, shelling out $25,000 to see Babs sing “People who Need People”, to Hugo Chavez.
Nickon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:01 am 14Congratulations, DH! You’ve really earned it. As editor-in-chief, I’m guessing you’ll have more duties than now, but will we still get to read regular postings by you?
Michaelon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:01 am 15Sounds great, I’ll be there, and I’ve no doubt it’ll be worth the trip.
JimmyCon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:10 am 16Congrats, DH. Breitbart’s lucky to have you. I’ve been reading your stuff since Libertas, and you can’t shake me now.

Plissken79on 02 Dec 2008 at 8:18 am 19I just signed up. Congrats Harry, you certainly deserve this!
Bubbaon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:20 am 20DH, if at all possible, please make sure your regular features carry over, too: the top 5 lists, the TCM pick o’ the day, the reviews, the open threads, and the daily hubba-hubba.
Either way, we’ll be happy to make the move with ya.
PerfectTommyon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:20 am 21Signed up as well. Good for you, DH.
Traffic Cop Timmyon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:24 am 22So will you still be DH or will we call you BH? Does that mean you’ll be our B%@$H?
Bibion 02 Dec 2008 at 8:25 am 23Attaboy.
Sphynxon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:50 am 24I’m still here, still reading once a day or every other day at least.
In your new digs, if you are producing the same great reviews and analysis, not to mention an occasional skewering of the Hollywood Helmet boys and girls, I’ll be there.
Stephanieon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:51 am 25DUUUUUDE! Awesome. Signed up. Love me some Breitbart and you being there is just too freakin perfect.
texacaliroseon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:01 am 26I wish you all kinds of luck! I signed up for the advance notice of the new site but hope this “place” continues, too.
I really want my art back. Thanks so much.
PattyAnnon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:02 am 27I love this blog exactly as it is. I’ll miss it.
That said, congratulations and good luck. I’m excited for you and eager to see the new place.
Blancon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:03 am 28DH,
I’ve quietly been a regular reader since you started at Libertas. I hope this brings more of the good!
As a cautionary tale you may want to consider the rise and fall (into hypocrisy and sell-outs-ville) of Harry Knowles. Does he still have a blog anyway?
Best!

Ginaon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:04 am 29No!!! SOB!
I’m very glad for you, Harry, but I’m going to miss this place!

Michael Hutchisonon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:26 am 32I’m Jealous.
Hey DH…if you need someone to blog about politics and the comics industry (which is part of the entertainment culture, especially now that comic books make 50% of the movies) let me know!
spacekickeron 02 Dec 2008 at 9:26 am 33Congrats. I love this site, so I’m sure the new place will be pretty durn good.
Mr24pon 02 Dec 2008 at 9:27 am 34This is great news!! I can’t wait to see the new site. I can’t blame you for moving. Working with Breitbart is definitely something not to pass up.

Jukeon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:13 am 38Congrats, You’ve earned this shot.
I envy you, its not all of us who can make a contribution like this to the culture war.
Good luck!
Joe Melnickon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:15 am 39I’m offended and angry that you would leave your unpaid blogging duties behind. I come here at least once a day and never pay anything to be entertained and enlightened, so I feel like you owe me something.
Best of luck. Now I guess I’ll head back to Libertas where… oh wait, they’re still on summer hiatus.
Helenon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:18 am 40Just signed up. Good luck. I am thinking we need some of that right-wing blog consolidation on this side of the Pond.
Kendamaon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:35 am 41Well isn’t this a pleasant surprise?
I wish you luck.
thudon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:49 am 42Well I’ve stuck around for quite awhile now so another move shouldn’t be too much to handle..congrats for your deserved recognition.
CTon 02 Dec 2008 at 10:54 am 43Congratulations. I signed up for the updates. I’ve been following you since Libertas. I had to see this place go, but I’m glad you got this shot. We need more conservative voices in the entertainment biz.
Carolynon 02 Dec 2008 at 11:26 am 44Harry, Congratulations!!! And congratulations again! I’ve signed up!
In all honesty, however, though I am sincerely delighted for you, I am more delighted for ME. This move of yours makes me incredibly happy because it is a signal that conservatives are doing the one thing necessary to save this nation - they are uniting.
Blogs on their own - even ones as awesome as yours - are way too small to fight ‘God DAMN America!’, and ‘I’m finally proud to be an American’ and ‘Neat! They stuck a fork in Sharon Tate!’ all by yourself. But united, you can do it.
Welcome to the fight, Harry. This time I know our side will win.
bradon 02 Dec 2008 at 11:32 am 45Although I read and (rarely) posted at libertas I never knew about the inside politics, I was surprised to find out that you were the entire reason that I was over there and I followed you to here. Congratulations on your new job, you are the talent we look for, see you soon at your new home.
Wayfareron 02 Dec 2008 at 11:57 am 46No freakin’ way! That’s awesome Mr. DH!
That is quite amazing.
Will we be able to comment on what you are doing? B/c if not, we (the readers) need a place we can come together and mourn/laugh/celebrate together on a daily basis, like this place has become.
Koolidgeon 02 Dec 2008 at 12:02 pm 47Looking forward to it Mister Dirty. Let’s have you back the show to promote it soon…
Ohio Wolverine Momon 02 Dec 2008 at 12:02 pm 48Congratulations, Harry, can’t think of a finer man or writer who deserves a break such as this—one question: will your mom be able to hack that site and post? Just curious…..:).

Kiton 02 Dec 2008 at 1:22 pm 53NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No more “Hubba Hubbas of the Day”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I can accept this.
Good luck Dirty Harry!!!
I “hope” you can “change” some things.
Kiton 02 Dec 2008 at 1:22 pm 54But no more hubba hubbas.
photomanon 02 Dec 2008 at 1:44 pm 55Will you have to wear pants? Or will you still do the job in your underwear?
elizabetheon 02 Dec 2008 at 1:47 pm 56I will be moving with you and ready to arm myself for my part in the culture wars. I read an article in a conservative book collection recently that said the final and ultimate front in the political battles between liberals and conservatives is the culture wars — which is what DH has said all along.
I also hope that you continue your reviews if nothing else. Your movie reviews are the meat and potatoes of this website and if you hand all of them off to some other writer on Breitbart, I’m going to be very very sad. And you wouldn’t like me when I’m sad. Oh no.
OWolvemom, and other more recent comers, just so’s you know, back when DH was blogging at Libertas, for a time, he and his mom both used to post on this blog and have political back and forth debates. So she didn’t “hack in” to post here, she was a regular blogger. (I don’t know why, but I feel defensive about DH’s mom. I think she’s gotten some unwarranted flak. Not that I agree with her about anything, oh no. But she’s not really the interloper she seems to be).
Furious Don 02 Dec 2008 at 1:49 pm 57I signed on to get the lowdown on Big Hollywood, it’ll be interesting to see how it goes.
Cherokee Jackon 02 Dec 2008 at 1:54 pm 58I’ll second the request to keep your regular features going. Wouldn’t be the same without them.
Good luck.
Eric Pon 02 Dec 2008 at 2:50 pm 59Huge congrats, DH/John/Obama Side-Thorn!!! Been looking forward to the official announcement for awhile and can’t wait to see your readership get even further jumbo-sized!
Emilyon 02 Dec 2008 at 2:57 pm 60Holy crap! Good luck, DH!
I’ve been looking forward to Breitbart’s new site for awhile, but knowing you’ll be there makes it even sweeter. Although I will kind of miss this place…fun times.
arminiuson 02 Dec 2008 at 3:06 pm 61Congratulations! I like the blog the way it is. However, still really looking forward to taking a look at the new site!
Between Libertas and now this site going defunct you are like a one man wrecking crew on my IE Favorites. No worries, I’ll keep stalking you wherever you end up, no matter how many “Blog On Haitus” Favorites I gather in the process.
Are you SURE you didn’t contribute to USS Clueless at some point? Because that would make it a true classic — the blog that went on haitus before blog haitusing was cool. And also still in my Favorites.
Penelope27on 02 Dec 2008 at 3:50 pm 62Hope you keep the “Pick O’ the Day” , you have directed me to some great movies and reminded me of a few I had forgotten.
I am signed up and looking forward to your next adventure….
Mr Stay Pufton 02 Dec 2008 at 3:52 pm 63Will the reviews keep coming?

Charles Delacroixon 02 Dec 2008 at 6:22 pm 67Well now … I just signed up … but *please* … ! Find a place for the Daily Dose of Hubba Hubbas plus the amazing posters (yeah well both kinds) and YouTube clips and In-Your-Face commentary.
All best wishes & keep up the great work Dude … !
Charles Delacroixon 02 Dec 2008 at 6:41 pm 68Oh yeah … one more thing … *please* don’t Grow. Hope and Change in Hollywood? Cool. But please, no Growth. Just don’t think I could put up with Dirty Harry going out to Big Ol Hollywood and then … ugh … Growing.
Jack Marinoon 02 Dec 2008 at 6:46 pm 69Harry, will this new site BIG HOLLYWOOD, will this site have links or sections for filmmakers to post their poster that will link to ‘conservative filmmakers” sites or even authors who publish books dealing with Hollywood? It would be nice to let other conservatives out there who come and blog to let them know about filmmakers like myself and all those who have made films.
We need to let Hollywood know and people who support indie project that was exist. I know films made by Zucker and Davi are name recognition and they should have a place that fits their achievements. However, I feel those of us trying to get out there should have some sort of platform so that this blog attracts everyone. Not just for the political stuff, but Hollywood, and books about Hollywood and politics. Make this a one stop shop for the center of conservatives to gather and fight for our right to promote our films and opinions in this intolerant leftist utopia we find ourselves living in today. These are just ideas for you and Andrew to kick around. I like your ideas you created for DHP the film forum, and the other sites. I feel you now can take these idea to another level, that will be a safe haven for conservatives to gather, to vent and promote their idea, films, scripts, anything. Something that is unique to the internet. Make this a BIG HOLLYWOOD with lots of sub links to future talent. You want to stand out like spats in an Iowa picnic so the entire leftist world knows you exist and that will get the national exposure for you and Andrew is already there.
You have access to the Freedom broadcast network our own roving reporter Eric Porvaznik going after the libtards and promoting conservatives. I don’t know, these are some ideas for you to consider since you will be the editor in chief.
Also anyway of putting a preview program when we post on blogs?

pizzadogon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:28 pm 73Excellent news!
I can’t think of anyone I’d rather have leading the charge than you. Here’s to job well done and deserved.
Ohio Wolverine Momon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:34 pm 74elizabethe—I was referring to DHM’s stunt around election time….caused her son and our guy a great deal of grief, but he was a class act throughout.
But it was nice of you to defend her; I disagree with her, but respect her right to express her opinion. Just having a little fun—-I read her (legitimate) posts.
Ohio Wolverine Momon 02 Dec 2008 at 8:35 pm 75DH—will be be able to give us any previews…let us know what might follow you to Breitbart?
Good Luck & God Bless; now I have to reprogramm the computers of family members….I book marked this cite for everyone during the Thanksgiving holiday, at their request.

Great—okay, a bit late—Chanukah gift.
Sharpshinyon 02 Dec 2008 at 11:31 pm 79Cool, man. I remember when you were still in the comments section at Libertas. (I had a different handle then.) Anyway, hope you won’t forget us peeps from the comments ‘hood…
EPorvaznikon 02 Dec 2008 at 11:40 pm 80Appreciate the nod, Jack, but I’m no longer with FBN.
Speaking of which, DH, would ya please mind putting in a good word to Andrew about me? I’m more than ready to give others their close-ups, Mr. DeMille……
Jack Marinoon 03 Dec 2008 at 12:23 am 81Eric, as i have said many times, if we conservatives don’t stick together and show a united front we will never beat the liberal system. We can’t do it each on our own. I have been doing this since 1980 and I have seen more filmmakers think they can beat the system and their peers to success and not one of the hundreds of filmmakers at the AFM for ten years broke out. The internet is like the wild west was, its open and free for us as conservatives to make waves in the industry, in the media and with the public. Right now, they can’t stop this or individuals who are trying to get to the public.
As you know and have experience as I had, that conservatives eat their own and don’t help each other. If we don’t stick together and promote all of us that have accomplish the massive effort of making a film, then none of us will get there. This has to be team effort, we must support each others films, books, scripts, plays whatever we are trying to sell. We can learn this from the Democrats, they will fight to the death to protect the likes of Bill Aryers. We don’t. We are all waiting for that one person to make it happen and he or she will never show up. We won’t help each other because maybe the film isn’t that good or the script isn’t what you might want it to be. We all must remember we are all starting out. In the independent world no one comes out with BEN HUR their first film. They are always low budget, with so so acting, so so production value. So conservatives tend to shy away. I will say this, it a filmmaker makes a great film his first time out, you won’t find him here blogging or asking people to buy his or her film. You won’t find him at the AFM or at film festivals, especially conservative ones, which are a blip on the hollywood radar.
We have an opportunity here and on BIG HOLLYWOOD to show a united front and support every filmmaker, author, writer, actor, poet that hangs in here and blogs. Even if we don’t like the material. Our work is cannon fodder to shoot at the wall of intolerant liberal fascist. If we are all over the wall at different places chipping away none of us will make a hole in it. We all have to bang together into a Brotherhood of warrior filmmakers and become a battering ram and bust a hole in this wall of rejection the liberals put up to keep us out.
BIG HOLLYWOOD can be this battering ram and our films are what we are throwing at them. This is a group effort, if we are selling conservatives films we must all buy them and tell the world about the DVD you just bought. It doesn’t matter if you loved, liked or hated the film, it if is pro American, pro conservative then promote it, support it and defend it. Remember, we don’t have this huge stock pile of films we can be picky with. We have only a few and must promote what we have and start a fire and then others will come and we can create a bigger fire until it is an inferno. Then the world will take notice and funding will come to filmmakers like myself and more films with our ideals will be made and put out into the marketplace. We can turn this sick liberal world and take it back just like they took it away from conservatives in the late 60s.
This BIG HOLLYWOOD can be the spark that lights the inferno. It has to be set up right to promote all of our films and other media or none of us will go anywhere.
Eric I have two authors for you to interview. One wrote a two volume set on Hollywood major stars and he knew and ran around with Errol Flynn. He has great stories. The other has just written his version of a PLAATU’S RETURN he couldn’t use the exact name because of copyright with 20th fox. He is a conservative writer living in Florida. I have told him about DHP and what we do here. He has an interesting story since he is blind and he has written a few books.
We either stick together and fight the system or we all die all alone in obscurity.

Dissent From the Mobon 03 Dec 2008 at 1:01 pm 89Let’s put some REAL diversity back into the popular culture. It’s past time for people in the business to come out proudly, as you have done. We need more Breitbarts, Simons, Chetwynds, Sellecks, Grammers, Duvalls, Voigts, Heatons, and Noltes!
Hey, that sounds like a pretty talented foundation for a movie…
